With my dd I got the vaccination right after she was born and then she got her first dose during her 1st set of vaccinations.
Now "they're" saying to get it while pregnant so that the baby can receive some of the vaccine inutero.
I've read a little bit from Dr. Sears perspective and I'm not one who gets too concerned about vaccinations. My kids usually get them on time. I'm not a big flu shot person, I just never have been.
So I'm just not sure I want to do the TDAP when pregnant. I know they won't force me, but I feel like changes come out and dr's automatically recommend the new vaccination without weighing in on it. As of now I think I want to wait...what's everyone else doing?
Re: TDAP
For me, the tetanus was the most important. I didn't want to refuse the vaccine and then be the dummy who got a tetanus infection while pregnant. (That would be my luck!) The pertussis was also important to me. I'm not quite as concerned about contracting diptheria...
DH got a TDAP too at the recommendation of my OB.

I just got it last may (2012) when dd was born, and I have no issues getting it again, but just not sure if I want to get it while pregnant.
(I am 110% anti-anti-vax and pro-flu shot, FTR.)
Here's an article regarding why to wait until after pregnancy to get the TDAP. I'm actually pro-vacination. I have no issues getting the TDAP, but do I need it when pregnant? I see that we should get it every year, if I got it in may 2012 then shouldn't that be enough until after this baby is born?
Thanks for all the response, it's very informative to see other views and thoughts!!
When I am cranky and then start missing things in posts, that's when I know it's time for me to rest.
ETA: After reading the research, I would personally get the vaccine with every pregnancy.

DH's family lives in a state with major pertussis outbreaks every year and they are very anti-vac. There's no way in hell I'd convince them to get it before holding LO. But there's no way I want LO potentially exposed without any protection.

Everything I find says that it can be done in late during pregnancy regardless of when the last shot was. I posted this editorial from dr sears bc he is widely known for wanting to delay vaccinations, so while it may not be "proof" he is a very well known md who is informed on vacinations. As I mentioned I'm not against them, but sometimes I think we tend to jump the gun and with all the pertussis cases lately I can see why we are ready to vaccinate more.
So all I could find about whopping cough and vaccinating is this article about how you can do everything right in vaccinating and your choke could still get whooping cough.

I'm still glad to see responses and viewpoints of what others are doing and why. I myself am just not sure how much research truly supports everything being on ok in getting the shot when pregnant...however sometimes benefits outweigh the risks. I also think it's a bit funny bc some ppl will be appalled that women would just get the shot without another thought bc the CDC says it's ok, yet others are appalled that women wouldn't get the shot to help their child before they are able to get their own set of vaccinations. Lol.
ETA: this link is from an anti-vaccination organization.
I believe that the new recommendations are to recieve TDAP in the third trimester with each pregnancy, regardless of when you had your last shot. This recommendation is solely for the baby (passes on antibodies in utero).
My OB recommended it along with the flu shot and I will follow her advice. Pertussis outbreaks were really bad when DD was born, but has gone done that last coulple of winters, but I would rather error on the side of caution.

All CDC views point towards getting the vaccine. All I wanted to do was show another viewpoint. CDC would be considered pro-vaccination...that doesn't mean that I agree with everything they put out there. I don't agree with not vaccinating children or adults, but I don't censor where I find info....however, I have edited to disclaim that the web page is from an anti-vacination organization.
Yup, makes total sense.

What about your husbands? Other kids? Family members? Are you encouraging them to get it?
I will be getting it, and probably making H, but I am just wondering about the 6-year-old germ bucket in my house? Will he need one?

The Vaccination Council's mission is "to counter the messages asserted by pharm companies, the govt, and medical agencies that vaccines are safe, effective, and harmless."
Those are two very different goals.

I do think its important that it should be known the link was from a very anti-vax organization so that the bias is made aware.
That's not exactly what I meant. Perhaps it's too subtle.

Lol, I was actually just kind of condensing to fit our topic to address the CDC issue.
Knowledge is power so it's important to put it out there, whether people agree on everything it not.
Well it seems to be very new studies, so what if there are negative effects towards the baby that we don't yet know about? I'm all for vaccines. In fact I wish more adults and kids stayed updated on vaccines so as to protect these newborns who are not yet fully vaccinated. I just don't like the idea of getting a vaccine while pg just in case it may, although no evidence has proven, give the baby some antibodies. The reason I would do it while pg if I was due for a booster is because it does indeed, for fact, protect the baby after born if you are vaccinated from it. Even if I was 5-8 years past receiving my TDaP I may get the booster anyway just because they are not sure if the immunity lasts the same length of time in everyone. I am not an expert in vaccines. Maybe there is info I am unaware of.
