I Think I Have BV But I'm In Mexico!!

So I was suspicious of having BV due to itching and discomfort that felt nothing like a yeast infection. I talked to my doc at my recent prenatal visit 3 days before leaving for Cancun and he dismissed my concern saying I should buy some Vagisil and then pick up Monestat. Lo and behold, here I am on my honeymoon still itchy and uncomfortable in a different country and unable to get back to my doc and 1. Punch him and 2. Get antibiotics. So my question is: does anyone have any home remedies to get me through??? Sorry if I don't reply right away, wifi is rather slow on the resort, but I appreciate any and all feedback!!!! Thank you!!!

  • Yikes, that sounds wretched. :/

I've never had BV or tried home remedies, but I've heard that you can do things like: eat lots of yogurt/probiotics, take cranberry pills, putting a few drops of tea tree oil in your bath water (or applying a diluted mix of it directly inside your girl bits), etc. And drink lots of water. But, again, I don't know if (or how much) any of that might help. Maybe someone will have some firsthand experience they can offer.

I hope you feel better soon!

  • Thank you for your response! I will definitely try what you mentioned with what I may have on hand here. Luckily I'm not terribly uncomfortable, it's bearable right now, but the part that concerns me is I've been told that having BV can increase your risk of miscarriage and preterm labor throughout the rest of the pregnancy. And I feel I have no one to air these concerns to because DH is such a worrier, I don't know how he would react with that information. Luckily I'm on an untraditional honeymoon (my DH's family came with us, separate rooms though!) so I may confide in my MIL during breakfast since everyone else went golfing. Any other ideas/suggestions are definitely welcome!! :) thank you!
  • Ask the hotel if they have a doctor on call. Sometimes they're more reputable than just random doctors in town.

  • @psk I'm very lucky to be at a place that speaks very good English! I'm calling my doctor shortly to first give him some heat, and then see what antibiotics he would recommend. I'm hoping that a doctor on the resort would be able to fill whatever he recommends. I may switch OBGYNs after this! So annoyed!!!!
  • And thanks for you insight- I never thought of seeing a doctor on the resort til you said it! I should stop panicking!
