My mom is a teacher and I help out in her class every year. I also use to work at a dog daycare, boarding and grooming facility.
I can't tell you how many names on here remind me of the dogs I use to know. I have to stop myself from posting that certain names remind me of dogs on a daily basis so I don't ruin the name for others lol. And even if I don't think of a dog immediately then I think of a misbehaved student. Le sigh.
Although not all the dogs are misbehaved. A recent name on one of the threads belonged to the sweetest Doberman who was a regular at daycare. But some names belonged to some trouble makers or I just see the face of a a shaggy little dog when I hear the name. >.<
You will never know how much you mean to me my little jelly Bean.

Re: My fun issue with names. So annoying.
Now I'm not an animal person, so maybe my opinion doesn't count, but I think the trend of giving pets people-names is lame. I'll never forget being at a dinner party where the hosts' dog and I had the same name (an ornery Jack Russell that they had to keep yelling at, "Allie! Sit! Allie!" I jumped every. single. time. I kept wanting to be like, "Dude, I'm sitting. Calm down.").
There are some people-names I'd use on animals, but only because I'd never use them on a person (Mortimer, Norman, Boris, Bruno, Humphrey). People naming a dog Olivia just gets the major side-eye from me.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I think if you let yourself get caught up in all of your associations you are going to have a very hard time finding a name for your LO.

Haha, now those are some hard associations to get past! It's one thing to be like, "I taught this kid who used to eat glue with that name." I could get past that association. But "This idiot drug mule was named that" is a totally different story. No getting past that.
I'm one of those people that tends to use people names for pets, but then again, that's how my family pets were, even before I was born. I don't know if I see it as a trend though as I don't think it's new in any way.
Having said that, I have issues with association also. My thing isn't with pets, but I used to teach middle school and high school before I started the field I'm in now, so my thing is associating certain names with students. I haven't been in front of a classroom since 2010, so some of the negative connations with certain names are already starting to fade, but I don't know if some will ever go away.
And my step dad is a police officer so I have some of those stories too. I get how hard that is
My DH loves the name Robin and I would be on bored as a middle name but I always here about this repeat offender named Robin by my step dad. I can't get past that.

So Dagny, love it , immediately think of a sweetheart Doberman
Jake, a wonderful English lab
Zoe , a very fat lab and a scruffy spazz.
Chloe, hyper pitbull mix plus many others
Zack, old beagle mix
Blake, golden
You see where I am going. I worked with dogs for so long that I view a lot of names as dog names before people. Lol

I worked part time as a receptionist at a veterinarian's clinic throughout college, so I understand seeing a lot of people names on dogs. Fortunately, the dogs didn't ruin any names for me. I guess I just think that it's okay that people and animals share names. My favorite name is Blaire, but DH refuses to consider it, so I plan to use it as our future dog's name.
