MOTN feedings

Does anyone skip diaper changes during their MOTN feeds? What about burping? Sometimes LO will do two 3 hour stretched at night, sometimes one 6 hour stretch. When she does the two 3 hour stretches I usually skip the diaper change (as long as there no poo) at her first wake up. She's always harder to put back to sleep after her second wake up and I wonder if its because of the diaper change or because she's just done for the night and ready to be up.

  • I change at feeds as he usually pees a number of times. He usually goes 8-10 hour stretches. I find it best to change, feed 3/4 of bottle, swaddle, feed rest, and sleep. I try to burp but he is a tough cookie in the regard

  • I sometimes get a 5 hour stretch, but at times LO will only do 2 hours after her first long one and I skip it then if there's no poop because it wakes him up. His diaper is never extremely full and his bottom looks great we use lots of butt paste at night

I always change his diaper before i feed him. Its always at least wet. Plus it helps wake him even more. (I dont wake him but even if he wakes himself he will fall back asleep easily)

Does he cry during the diaper change? I stopped changing before feeding because she would scream wanting to eat (it bothered me only a little, but I felt bad that the screaming woke up DH when I try to let him sleep through MOTN feeds).

  • I always change him at the beginning of his feeding and I burp him a few times except for at the end when he is usually asleep.

This is exactly what I do!

Ok, maybe I need to try something like this. I just feel so bad interrupting her meal, lol. I guess that why I also don't usually burp until she's done (even during the day)

  • I always change before he eats. If I don't, it seems like he will leak and end up peeing on me. I only burp him if he's awake at night.

  • I always change him as soon as I get him out of the crib. I then feed him. Burping him at night is difficult I usually don't get a burp out of him.

  • We feed 3/4 of the bottle, burp, change diaper, reswaddle, finish bottle, then bed. He will never burp on that last ounce. We have to change him every time he wakes up cause he poops almost every diaper.
  • We don't change or burp in the middle of the night. I usually change him without waking him just before I go to bed and don't change again until morning. We bedshare, though, so middle of the night feeds for us are as simple as pull boob out of tank top, get baby latched on, and fall back asleep.

  • I change after, she generally poops during bf. even if its just pee, it's part of my routine to feed, burp, hold upright for thirty min, change, swaddle, and put back to bed.

I had a hard time getting DD back to sleep in the MOTN until someone on a board suggested: change diaper, feed on one side, burp, re-swaddle, feed other side till DD falls asleep. It works like a charm!

This is what I've done since DD was born and it works like a charm, except I change her in between sides because she's an "in-n-out" girl (poops while eating)

  • I do not change or burp her for MOTN, she gets swaddled by 9pm, diaper change, lots of butt paste, fed, sleeps till 3am usually, quickly bf her in the dark with minimal talking/interaction, she's passed out until 5am then I change her and feed again. I only change her during the night if she leaks or is wide awake, otherwise I try to keep things as simple and low key as possible, to help her associate night time with sleep. She has not had a rash from skipping the diaper change.

  • I've started to skip one diaper change, usually the second time we get up overnight, bc it's just pee. It wakes him up less to just keep him swaddled and feed him right back to sleep. If he poops, that's a different story. And usually the first time he wakes up is after a long stretch (only 4ish hours but that's the best he's got so far) so ill change him then. After that its usually every two so that's why I skip. It seems to help ::knock on wood::

He doesn't poo overnight but if he did I'd change him. Otherwise, just pee? No. I'm not waking him up and his butt is fine - no rashes. We use diaper paste before bedtime. I skip the burping, too. Feed & right back to sleep he goes.
This.  I cloth diaper and do a double stuffed pocket - it wicks all the moisture away from his bum, and we haven't had rash issues.   I'm waiting until he grows into his s'bish fitted O/N, and we'll see if we need a stay-dry solution with those.  I also generally don't burp in the middle of the night unless he starts fussing again once I put him down.

How does one change a baby without waking him/her? Mine always wakes!

It helps that he's already asleep in our bed, so I just simply slide a mat underneath him and change him as quietly as possible. If he stirs, I just do a quick side-lying nursing session so he doesn't wake fully.

  • LO doesn't usually do MOTN feedings anymore, thank God, but when she wakes up around 6 ish I have to change her diaper because its so heavy and she had been sitting in it for 6-8 hours. Mind you, I EP so I pump and feed her at the same time. It's a grueling process but it's rather convenient and I try to set up all the stuff I need before hand

  • I put LO on the boob first. She usually falls asleep within the first 5-10 minutes. Then I change her to wake her a little bit (she never wakes fully) and them she nurses a little longer to make it until the morning feeding.
  • Depending on how long it's been, I don't always change the diaper.  I'm definitely not waking her up to change diapers anymore, and she doesn't poop in her sleep like she used to.

I ALWAYS burp in the middle of the night.  It's kind of a pain, because it takes forever when she's asleep, but if I don't she ends up spitting up everywhere and waking up with tummy aches.

We always change him, we are doing cloth so it is a bad idea to leave him in it too long. I try and burp him a couple of times during the feeding and then if he falls asleep at the end I am not as worried about gas.
We're doing cloth too, but at some point they sleep through the night (technically, DD is with 5-7 hour stretches at times) and will be in the diaper the whole night.  I've started preparing "overnight diapers" for her for those longer stretches, and so that I don't have to change if she wakes up after 2 hours or so in the middle of the night.
