Massages to trigger contractions

Hello Ladies,

Happy Friday! So I have a friend who is a massage therapist and she was talking to me about massage techniques she knows that can trigger my contractions. I am currently 37 weeks 3 days. I was curious to find out if any of you have had a massage like this done. If they really work or not? I am not trying to do them now. Just planning ahead because if I turn 40 weeks and have not give birth yet I am going for it! I am literally DONE being pregnant!

Re: Massages to trigger contractions

  • I know there are spots on the feet they can press in a reflexology massage that can induce labor. I've thought about doing it later, like if I go overdue. But, I'm not certain about it yet. I'll ask my OB first.

  • there are definitely spots - that is why therapists have to be trained to do pre-natal, so they know what to avoid.

  • I did one. Didn't put me into labor but definitely had some stimulation and baby girl was going crazy!

That's exactly what she was telling me. She recently had two clients that have received a doctors note that were overdue. One of them her water broke that same night and the other was was getting contractions as she was giving her the massage so she had to stop between contractions.

Oh yea I will definitely ask my OB first!

  • My coworker's wife claims to have started 3 women's labor with massage techniques.  Don't know how legit, but that's her claim...  (through him, she offered me these services at about week 25...)

25 weeks really? I hope u didn't move forward with the offer. I will try them only if I go past my due date.

Yes I am done being pregnant at 37 weeks! And honey I didn't say I'm looking for tips, I was simply asking if anyone has had one and if they do work because once I hit 40 weeks and I don't go into labor I MIGHT try them...

Sorry u are having such a bad day! Take a walk it might help :)

Lol stephyc. I think some people need a lesson on reading the whole post before they comment. :)

That being said, SIL is a massage therapist and has mentioned some trigger spots (mostly in the feet). I've also heard of a few women who have gone into labor after getting a pedicure. That might be worth a shot too (in a few weeks of course... Lol).

Omg!!!!! Lol you just literally made me lol. Please show me where in my post I said I'm trying to trigger my contractions? I clearly said if by 40 weeks I don't go into labor I'm going to try the massages if they work.

And also I suggested for u to take a walk because u said " I just can't today" which shows that u are having a bad day

Learn how to read and if u don't like a post go on about your day lady! Lol
  • I believe in pressure points and accupuncture and massage techniques can certainly help, helps with blood flow and all that jazz. I'll look into it if this kiddo isnt out in 2 weeks, my OB will only allow to go over 1 week and then they insist on medical intervention (bunch of quacks) so yeah. Its on my list of things to try.

Yea definitely, that's what I want to avoid, I want the least medical intervention possible.

I can post wherever and whatever I would like. Maybe something you should learn before posting on a public forum. I clearly get what your post is about an decided, because I disagree, to reply how I wanted.

I had a massage yesterday and told her to go ahead and feel free to massage those pressure points. So far.. Nada.
  • I am trying for a VBAC and my doc does not want me to go over at all, but is willing to give me a few days so like 40.5 max.  I would actually like to try some of this at 39.5 weeks, flame away but I had an induction then emergency c section that didn't go well last time. I would like to avoid this, this time so I am  hoping a little "help" will get things moving!

Ughh! I'm sorry to hear that hun, hopefully if you try the massage techniques by your due date everything will go smoothly but like @janneann1127 said they don't always work, that's why I'm looking for feedback.
  • When I was in labor with my first LO my MIL was in the room and she's a licensed massage therapist. Anywho she did do some simple massages and pressure points that definitely helped my contractions become stronger and more productive. So I could see where it may help start things if you do all ready have some cervix progress. Hoping you won't need to worry about it. Best of luck!

I'm trying VBAC also but my MW is letting me go to 42 weeks. She's firm that labour coming on its own is far more conducive to a successful VBAC. Just wondering what your doc's reasoning is?
