Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleeping in swing

I know that officially you're not supposed to allow your baby to sleep in the swing overnight, but have any of you done it? Right now it's the only way we're keeping our sanity but I'm paranoid to fall asleep with him in the swing. I've just tried to put him back in the crib but he wasn't having any of it, he wants the swing

Re: Sleeping in swing

  • DH had our LO sleeping in the swing every night for about a month. I was so angry at him for doing that because previously, I had him sleeping just fine in the pack and play and after he started in the swing, he didn't want to sleep on a flat surface anymore. I figured that he just didn't want to be flat, so to transition him back to the crib, I got the wedge and put him so his head was on that and then I rolled up a blanket to put under his legs. Over the last month, I managed to flatten him out and now he's fine.

  • DD would only sleep well in her swing.  We had her in the cradle in our room but found she'd sleep longer in the swing.  When she was almost 2 months old, I put a stop to it.  She was only allowed to sleep in her swing for naps during the day.  I started putting her in her crib at least once a day to get use to it.  Eventually we transitioned away from the swing at night and the cradle, as well.  Now at 4 months, DD is finally STTN and is in her crib.
  • DS slept in his swing the first few nights home from the hospital. It wasn't the plan, but it was what worked.

  • We are in the four month wakeful period and the last two nights she has refused to sleep after her MOTN feeding.  She has slept in her swing though. It is right near my bed and I get to sleep for more than the 5 min stretches she was giving me in her crib.  I'm team what works.

This! 4 month wakeful/teething, and if her in her swing and me on the couch gets us some sleep, I'm all for it!

  • LO slept in her swing for the first 2.5 months bc before that she would wake up instantly or within a few minutes of being laid down on a flat surface.  Then one night she fell asleep in her pack-n-play and has been sleeping in her crib and STTN ever since. Sleep is crucial, so if it works then by all means.

  • We did it with DS1 before we got the rock n play. He had bad reflux and would NOT sleep on his back. DS2 is a champion sleeper with no reflux so he is in the crib.
