It's amazing how whenever this topic comes up, the lone bootstrapper always magically once worked for an assistance program. It's a remarkable coincidence I've noticed.

Fucahwe what was your previous SN? Because I know you've been in these discussions before.

Maybe it makes sense that the person with the most insight/experience thinks more rationally than those that are basing their opinions off of emotion

Sweetie, your biggest argument is that these people get a bigger grocery budget than you.  How is that not emotional?  We have given facts which are rational.  You have given us whining that someone gets more than you.

    Fact = rational.

    Whining =
    emotional

You have a valid point. I do find it upsetting that I have to work on such a strict food budget but someone else, with the same family size as me, is given so much more. No, your food budget Does not need to be higher just bc your income is lower. What feeds my family of 5, should also be enough to feed the average family of 5. That is just common sense to me.

But logically, a family of 5 should not receive $800 in food stamps a month. A family of 3 should not receive $530. Cut those numbers. Like I said, most people will not see a difference, bc they are not getting the maximum. But even if 15% of the foods tamp population is, that's a lot of money saved. And they will still have plenty kdnfoos

Yes. Food stamps are a federal benefit.

    @EVERYONE

I see you all have met the only person on my ignore list! Isn't she lovely?

She was over on Feb 14 the other day going on and on about how working moms have it WAY HARDER than moms that don't work, and that she does everything SAHMs do but in way less time (insert list of 12 billion random things she does each day), and that she's looking forward to staying at home and getting a break once this baby is born. Cause stay at home moms just live a life long vacation, y'all!

Then she said stupid crap on March 14 as well, and kept going on about how it's just her OPINION and we shouldn't be offended by her OPINION and we're all just sensitive and how it's just funny when people are upset by the way she says things, cause she's an adult. And won't change the way she says things no matter how offensive others find it.
    So Obvious Troll is obvious?
    Yes.

And irritates me way more than she should... hence blocked.

But people keep quoting and arguing with her. Why doesn't the block function work?!

Then If you read what I posted you know that you are not one I suggested receive cuts. You are clearly not receiving the maximum. Your budget is $50? The food stamp max for a family of 3 is $526. Think about it for a minute and tell me if that's reasonable. Sure, it would be nice. But would you NEED $526/'moth to feed your family? Plus WIC? C'mon people, think logically!

Yes, that's reasonable.  Frankly, I can't think of a better way for the government to spend my tax dollars than to feed starving children.  If the government needs to reduce spending, there are other places that where they can do so without reducing benefits to children and seniors.

I must me amiss then. I spend roughy that much to feed my family of
    5. Maybe we just aren't eating well enough.

I swear, she's better than getting under people's skins than most trolls.

Is there such thing as a talented troll?

Ignore her. My BMB did so she started crap on another BMB. They ignored her, so she's here now.

  • I would rather be a working mom than a SAHM anyway. That shit is too hard for me.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I'd also rather be a working mom. What i said on the other board was that I do more as a working mom than I did as a Stay at home mom. Folks took offense to that, but it is my personal experience

Anyways, for me the huge facepalm thing is Food Stamps is a program that WORKS. Economists love it. It is possibly the greatest way for the government to stimulate the economy, and it's morally the right thing to do. I get why small government Republicans who hate Keynesian Economics want to get rid of it; it's a shining example of how big government programs can work well while stimulating local businesses and creating jobs.

I'm sad, because social conservatives used to love this kind of stuff. Then they drank the Republican Kool Aid.

It would be great to have a food stamp program that works. But with this one, some people are receiving too
Many benefits and others aren't receiving nearly as much as they should. It's seriously broken. There are people selling foodstamps for liquor money bc they have too many and others living off of ramen noodles bc they don't have enough.
  • @LuckyDad I am glad you said that. I was thinking that people shopping at grocery stores by any means was allowing for others to maintain employment and to have money to spend.

Plus, all those people rolling in food stamp dough can free up their cash for all the iPhones, Coach bags, and SUVs they allegedly all have!

Well how long were you a SAHM?  Because I think the job changes, and I don't think  one side does more work than the other.
I work less on days I'm at work than days I'm at home with DS all day. Although the "work" with DS is more fun. So maybe it's a push.

Truth. I knew people who would sell their food stamps so they could buy beer, weed, a new outfit for the club, get their nails done, etc., but their kids were eating Ramen noodles 2 meal a day.

I was at home for almost 6 years. And maybe for some, that may be the case. But for me, I work harder working outside of the home AND trying to maintain home life. Thats not supposed to be a reflection on anyone else, it's my personal experience. I was responding to a thread that asked who had it harder, I said that for me, it is harder working 50 hours a week then taking care of home than it was for me when I wasn't working.

    Citations needed.

With any program there will always be people who abuse it. I mean, there are tons of cases of government contractors for defense spending fleecing the government. At some point you have to accept a certain low level of fraud and waste; it's only efficient to a certain point to go after waste if you have to spend lots more money to try to quash a few small problems.

Formulas can always be tweaked. Sometimes it's hard to make numbers work exactly the way we want them to. But this bill is a buzz-saw, not a scalpel.

I agree with everything you said 100%. The bill is rediculous, and seeking to cut way too much for all of the wrong reasons, and without a plan on where to responsibly make those cuts. I do, however, agree that cuts need to be made to the foodstamps program (with a scalpel) and I suggested a place to start.
