STM, where did your water break?

There are 9 ladies at my place of employment due between now and dec. Btw we are all having boys! and that's not including 4 dads who's wives also had boys! Anyways in the dining area I was speaking to a few of the other ladies and we got on the topic of our water breaking at work. Almost all of our fears were it would happen in our chairs and we would ruin our chair seats. Not that this is a huge deal since we work for a office furniture mfg. But anyways, STM's do any of you have a dramatic " my water just broke" story?

Re: STM, where did your water break?

  • First time at midnight when I was about to go to bed after a long day of work and shopping.  Second time was at the hospital waiting to be admitted... they booted me but let me back in once my water broke.

  • Mine broke while throwing up in the bathroom. First I thought I peed myself, but quickly realized it was my water breaking.

  • I was actually in the bathroom at my house when it happened. I had no idea what it was, and just assumed I snissed again. There was no "gush" of liquid, just a very light trickle. I actually went to work the next day and was in active labor the entire day. Not as bad as you'd think, but I guess WHATEVER came back to bite me because I always joked about giving birth at work. Only a few hours off of that prophesy!

My water broke in the hospital while in the middle of a very painful contraction. I had been having contractions every 2 minutes for about 5 hours at that point.
ETA: About 3 hours later ds was born.
    Little one is here.
  • I was woken at 3am by the dog barking, and stood to see what was wrong. There was a trickle; I thought I peed myself actually. I laid back down, and got up again and the same thing happened so I drove to the hospital. Nothing too dramatic I guess ;)

  • Nope, it was broken for me while laboring at the hospital. Around 8cm with DS2 can't remember with DS1

  • I had my cerclage removed at my doctor's office and dilated to 4 right away.  He had me walk around, then admitted me at 5.  They broke my water while I was already in labor.  Very boring story!  I am hoping for a bit more excitement this time around, or at least a story worth telling.

  • My water never broke on it's own.

Mine started leaking at home when I was cooking dinner. It had to be fully broken in the hospital the following day. Not very exciting.

I worried about this (about it breaking on the train on the way home from work or in the middle of the night, ruining our like-new mattress!), but I shouldn't have. Had it broken for me at the hospital. That REALLY got things going, contractions-wise.

  • It sort of gets lost amid the c section drama, but I believe I was labouring.:)

  • Mine broke in bed during the middle if the night. I got up to go to the bathroom and it broke when I layed back down in bed. I thought I wet my pants at first until I went back into the bathroom. Then it was obvious that it was my water breaking!

This. I was induced with DS and they broke it for me right away to get things started. I was about 2-3cm. I went into labor on my own with DD. Got to the hospital at 5-6cm, they broke my water at 8cm.

  • Mine never broke on its own. I was induced with my first and they broke it with me. My 2nd they broke it when I was 9cm and then I was ready to push.
  • Mine broke while I was sitting on the toilet laboring at home. The on call doc had told me that it was Braxton hicks and I was fine. I hung up the phone and went to bathroom and felt a pop and a gush. I wasn't sure what had happened until I saw the white flakes.

Never did. They broke it with what looked like a huge crochet hook at the hospital. S's head was right there though, so bitch said "I feel a very tough membrane" as she was jabbing. Turns out that was his head. He had bloody marks where she poked him (still has tiny scars under his hair).

Omg! Was this a doctor or nurse who did that? That's so awful!

My story is not dramatic but it broke in bed while I was sleeping. I was in a deep sleep and don't ask me how but I heard a huge pop and I somehow jumped out of bed at the exact same time and into the bathroom five feet away. I don't know how I didn't soak the bed but there was SO MUCH WATER! I highly recommend if you don't have a mattress protector on your bed that you put one on. We probably would have had to throw out our mattress.

OMG! I would have had that doctor/nurse's head on a stick.

    holy crap. what a nightmare!

  • Mine only broke with DS1 ... It was about 10:45 pm and DH and I were in bed watching TV. He made me laugh, and I felt a "pop" and gush. It freaked me out. Glad I was at home!

  • Mine just trickled at home. I was expecting a gush but that never happened.
  • They broke my water when I was in labor at the hospital. I was around 6 cm.
  • I was induced and they broke it nothing special.
But a lady that I used to work with, hers broke at work. She went in to our boss an said I'm leaving, and he was going to deny it. Then she said. My water broke. He said leave lol.

  • With both the boys I had my membranes artificially ruptured at about 9cm dilated in the hospital. My waters are tough - they don't break on their own. I opted to get them broken so the baby's head would apply more direct pressure to the cervix so it would dilate that last cm a little faster!

  • Nothing dramatic.  Sometime sometime soon after 8cm, the doctor broke it (apparently it was ready to burst, she said).  Had a baby a little over an hour later.

  • My water technically broke at home, but by broke I mean I had a pin-prick leak that I didn't think was anything.  It wasn't even enough to soak a pantiliner, and the only reason I went to the hospital was because it smelled different from normal discharge (sorry TMI)...

DH and I seriously discussed getting litmus paper from the pharmacy and trying to test it ourselves to avoid the embarrassment of the L&D staff laughing at us and sending us home.  We got lunch on the way to the hospital, and ate in the restaurant.  When they said yup, your water broke, we were both shocked that we were there to stay.  They kept asking me exactly when it happened, and I really had no idea.  I got started on pitocin to get my contractions to amp up- I was having some but couldn't feel them yet.  Of course, the Dr.s later broke my water again- a second membrane maybe?-  and that time it was like a bathtub faucet between my legs.  They of course decided to do that right when they were putting my epidural in...

All that to say, it's not always a huge gush when it's go time...
  • Mine broke at work in a post partum patient's room. I was helping her breast feed at 5am. Huge gush.
  • I spent most of my labor sitting on the toilet (not using it, just felt the most comfortable there) and my water broke there. No muss no fuss. My mucus plug however.....

  • Mine broke while waiting in triage of L&D. I was only dialated to a 3 and was about to be sent home.

I thought I had to pee, but was hooked up to monitors so I told my DH to hurry and grab the nurse. My head was hanging in shame when they got back because I thought I peed myself. But as soon as I stood up, the nurse laughed and said "no, I am pretty sure your water broke", and tested it. And it was my water, thank goodness!

Mine broke right at midnight just after I went to bed. I sat up (don't remember why) and felt a painful pop. It was a decent amount of water, but not a flood. I immediately had a very painful contraction. I'd been to the pool that day, so when I tried to wake my husband up to tell him, he mumbled something about it being pool water that got stuck and to wake him up when I knew something. Not a good thing to say to a woman mid contraction! Anyway, I was in hard labor, and our little guy was born three and a half hours later.
    That made me lol.

  • The Dr had to break mine in the hospital. I had already been there all day having intense contractions. I think I was dialated to like 6 cm or something by the time he did that.

  • The first time they broke it in the hospital. The second time was at home, but it was a slow leak, not a big rush, so it took me awhile to figure it out.

  • I was laying in a hospital bed both times.  The on-call resident broke mine at 5cm with my first and my OB broke it at 9 with my second.  Curious what will happen this time...
About to be outnumbered... baby #3 is on the way!
  • With DS1, it broke while i was reading in bed about 30 minutes after my DH took a double dose of nyquil in attempts to kick his cold faster. I had towels down because I was so scared and it was more of a leak at first than a gush, so Nyquil-stoned husband is totally the most exciting part of the story. With DS2, it was broken for me during labor.
