Roadtrip/Flight Toy Recommendations

Hi Everyone,

We'd love some recommendations for great busy toys for on the plane and for in the car - we're taking 2 big roadtrips this summer (we're hoping to keep the driving time down to 7 hours each day) and 3 flights (1 of which will have us traveling from 6am-5pm).   We might even break out the ipad (currently we're a no screen time family so hopefully this would be a big lure when we've used up our bag of tricks), so any great app recommendations would be great.

TIA

Re: Roadtrip/Flight Toy Recommendations

  • Within the last 2 weeks my son has been interested in the iPad, but before then he couldn't care less (still has no interest for tv).  We flew when he was 15 months old and the only thing that kept him quiet and semi-still was eating a container of puffs.  He now has a longer attention span, so the iPad was a lifesaver on a 5 hr. drive we had last weekend.  We also had a travel Aquadoodle (only entertained him for 5 mins at a time), a few books (the noisy ones kept him busy for a little while), a pinwheel (new and different so it entertained him).  We're flying an a couple of days, so I'm packing all of the same things plus markers and playdough.  As far as apps: He loves any animal sound apps and a Wheels on the Bus App.  I would just DL a lot of different things and hopefully one or two will keep her attention.  Good luck!

  • My DD has flown once, just before she turned one. I over packed with a few familiar toys and a few ones - balls, finger puppets, books. She really didn't care as she was so distracted by the goings on around her. She enjoyed looking out the plane window and even played some with the plane magazines and the (clean and unused) sick bag. So long story short, utilize the stuff around you.
