need an opinion re swaddling...

LO had been sleeping really well - 9-10ish until 5-6ish. Occasionally, we'd have an exceptionally early day (4ish), or a really late day (7.... ONCE), but in general, he was starting to have a pretty good sleeping pattern.

We decided to try putting him down in his swaddleme with his arms out; we noticed that when he'd wake up, his hands would be free, and we weren't sure if that's what WOKE him up, or if it happened after he woke up or what... but we thought we'd give it a try.

We used the swaddle from the chest down - arms free. All good. Back to fairly decent sleep. So we figured we'd try NO swaddle, and just put him down in a sleeper. He woke up at 2:45. Ouch.

So.. my question is.. coincidence? Should we try just a sleeper again? Just go back to the swaddleme from the chest down? I know there's no science to this... just looking for opinions.

(Also, for background, typically when he wakes up in the MOTN, he's hungry and downs a bottle and goes back to sleep. But I don't think hunger is actually waking him up. Occasionally, he'll go back down with a pacifier and white noise, but not always.)

Re: need an opinion re swaddling...

  • I'd say it's worth another try tonight with the sleep sack - it'd be nice to not need any swaddle once he starts rolling! That being said, if tonight is another early night, I'd go back to the waist down swaddle.

  • OH - we didn't use a sack; just one-piece pjs

  • I would give it another try without Swaddling at all, just to rule out the fluke possibility.
