Agreed. I am looking at getting a new (used vehicle) soon. Of course this won't be the exact one I get, but just comparing one I was looking at to the equivalent brand new, I can save $10,000 by getting one two years old with just 20,000 miles on it. Cars depreciate soooo quickly, I really don't understand paying all that extra when certified used cars are just as nice.
On the car topic, I also don't understand trading in your car versus selling it private party. I get that selling a car can be intimidating, I absolutely dread it. But by selling my car to a private party I could potentially get $9000-9500 for it, but the trade in value is only $5000. I can't ever justify throwing away 4 grand to be lazy.

Since we're talking money... My UO is that I think people who buy brand new cars (unless they are quite wealthy) are ridiculous.
My DH bought me a new car when I graduated college... I had a amazing job lined up and we had the money saved and we decided to get a loan. The particular car when looking for used was only $1,000 less then buying new... and I'm not joking! It was stupid to buy used when we could just spend the extra funds and get new without any miles. It is our family car and we love it. We also have visions of keeping this car for a VERY long time... so I understand buying new in some cases.
This was exactly our reasoning. Buying used didn't really save much money.
We also bought a new car because it was cheaper. With our family discount at a dealership, it was cheaper than buying used one with 75,000 miles. Buying that same car used would have cost us money.

It's not that sensitive people don't get you, it's that normal people think you are a Waste of air and resources.
If you're going to be on feb, be there. Both boards don't want you to bounce back and forth.
Thanks for your opinion, but I'll continue as I have been.
Aren't you just adorable. Where's the AE from TTGP when I need it to banish you to Connect With Pampers?
Thanks, but I'm still learning the abbreviations. Are those important ones?

Now that I'm done playing with the troll, here's mine:
I honestly don't understand this country's obsession with SUVs. Most of them seat the same number of people as a sedan and have hardly more trunk space to justify the price. Then you have the fuel economy that's usually way less than a sedan as well. I'm not judging anyone who drives one. I just honestly don't understand the appeal.
This. I don't understand when people get pregnant and NEED an SUV for all the babies stuff! What stuff? A stroller and a diaper bag don't take up THAT much room? I have a Ford Taurus sedan and it's roomy and gets great gas mileage. Any more than two, I get it, but one or two, you don't really need a minivan.

Maybe it's just because I'm a minimalist, but I'm quite fine with my tiny Ford Fiesta! I would rather have the great gas mileage over trunk space any day! Although one time I was transporting some kiddos (3 & 6) and the older one said, "miss Cierra, why is your car so small?!" it's petite, like me!

We have a 4WD SUV, and I'm sure you would too if you lived in Northern Alberta. We had a Toyota Yaris and I'm surprised my husband didn't die.
New england is not as bad I'm sure, but ditto this. I'm getting an sub bc 1. My Infiniti m45 is worthless with even a dusting of snow and 2. With #4 on the way, I need a 3rd row.
Tiny cars cant always go where the suv can. Our land is deep in the country, back in the woods a tiny car wouldnt cut it. And a taurus/fiesta certainly wouldnt be able to get out if there was a heavy rain or snow.

This makes sense to me. If you have tons of snow and or tons of kids, I get it. One child you don't need an SUV automatically.

Totally understand this! I'm originally from Florida, now living in Kansas and my DH dosent like me driving in the snow (not that I mind, I get a free chaufer service in the winter!) we also have a F-150 so we can drive that when needed, but I love having the fiesta for the gas mileage!

Since we're talking money... My UO is that I think people who buy brand new cars (unless they are quite wealthy) are ridiculous.
When we bought our car several years ago it was brand new... we wanted a Mini Cooper, and we originally did look at used, but honestly, the used versions cost almost as much as the new version, so we figured we'd might as well get new. We are not "quite wealthy" but it's not as if we're losing sleep over the money we spent or gave up food and rent to pay for it. I don't see why anyone would care.

We test drove a Fiesta and I loathed it. I felt like I was driving a matchbox car. I know the difference between that and the Focus is not that much, but it made a world of difference to me. Our next car will probably be an SUV, but like PP said, mostly for the snow. Despite living in New England all my life, I am terrified of driving in the snow and my last sedan was awful in it. We'll see how the Focus does in a few months.
And I definitely can't side eye people who buy new cars- sometimes it's just a better deal. We've gotten lucky in that we've often found the cars we wanted a model year older with less than 20k miles for significantly cheaper than new. We bought a 2009 Fusion in 2010 with only 8k miles on it for almost $15k less than a comparable 2010. Can't pass that up!
All this car talk makes me want to go buy another car. Alas, not for a year or two.
Building off of other posts from today: I don't like the tone of this board. What is with all the "Let's promise to never be mean and all be BFFs!!!1!" threads? This is one of the reasons I don't come around as much anymore. Because it's turned into google over here. There's no sense of community because everyone's too busy asking the same question eleventy billon times. And if there is a real post it gets buried to the third page by lunch time because all of the randos asking about their symptoms. Ugh. No thank you.

You know, I absolutely thought this when I was pregnant with my first. I have a Subaru Legacy and thought it would be fine. Now my baby is needing to switch to a RF convertible seat, which barely fits behind the passenger seat unless it is all the way forward. Add another infant seat to that and both front seats need to be so far forward my husband can't fit in them, and he's not even that tall. Plus, it'd be nice to have parents, ILs ride with us when we go places instead of having to take separate cars. So, we are now shopping for an SUV. TL;DR versio - I agree with y'all in principle, but stuff changes, man.
This is probably not a UO...but for all of you without avatars and siggies...get one! I remember people by their photos, not their names most the time.
Also...the ticker change posts are for you ONCE a week. The people that post on them everyday annoy the $h!t out of me!
Sorry...had to say that
I tried to figure out how to do an avatar last night but am strictly mobile so I couldn't. I don't have a computer until I get around to getting my laptop fixed
I want one though, I totally agree with you. It's easy for a name to become a real person when an image is associated with the name.

Ditto. My laptop is broken and my computer has some scary FBI virus.
Really how hard is it to spell out my son, daughter, utrasound, morning sickeness, and other various short words? Do you really have to dumb it down? I just get so sick of seeing this all the time. I am not sure if it is so that people feel it is more exclusive or what, but it really doesn't save that much time. Please, just type it out. This is how I feel about texting too. I mean come on, I know you are not really "laughing out loud."
Side Note... This is coming from someone who uses abbreviations all day at work in the ED. So I know it is a little hypocritical.
If you havent set a personal avatar it change every time you post!!! I hate this.
Both of my laptops are busted and i wont be getting an avatar until I replace my computer. I am in no hurry to do this so you may as well get used to the random ever changing pictures next to my name.

Is that why your avatar changes every time I see you post? Today I've seen a crib, a woman, a different woman, and now you're a man.
I had no idea that was happening. I haven't chosen an avatar, so I don't know anything about that. But that's funny. Is it just happening to me?

Needless to say... I'll be driving the damn minivan when the twins come. Certainly don't think I can get a double stroller and 2 infant seats into the Ford Focus Hatchback.

He he I've done that. And I can see how 1. It can be incredibly annoying and 2. It's counterproductive. If you're gonna say TMI, say it first, so folks have the option not to read further, right?

This is why we just got a minivan. Honestly, unless you get a big SUV with a 3rd row you're not really going to have more space for carseats or people than you do in a sedan. Our Accord has been great with one kid. But there was no way we could keep DD RFing and also fit another RFing carseat in the backseat and have DH still fit in the car. We bought a minivan, brand new, which will be paid off by the time this baby comes. We had been saving for it and a used one wouldn't have been much cheaper. We figured it's the vehicle we will have for a LONG time and it's our only vehicle, so we wanted to be the only owners. I always thought it was ridiculous when people had one kid and automatically went to a bigger vehicle. I still do. But with 2 and zero family in town so lots of road trips every year, we needed something a little bigger, at the very least so we could safely fit both car seats.

I want one though, I totally agree with you. It's easy for a name to become a real person when an image is associated with the name.

Both of my laptops are busted and i wont be getting an avatar until I replace my computer. I am in no hurry to do this so you may as well get used to the random ever changing pictures next to my name.

My DH had a Mini-van before I met him..Single guy, no kids. The first time he drove me home after a date, all the seats were out and a tarp was on the floor. I thought "Jaysus - is that where he keeps the bodies"?!
Needless to say... I'll be driving the damn minivan when the twins come. Certainly don't think I can get a double stroller and 2 infant seats into the Ford Focus Hatchback.
Sorry I tried to quote you and I hacked it hp bad.
Bahahaaa! This is great!
My first date with dh we drove his Harley all over the place. Eventually we went to the farm on his land way out in the woods, it was dark and creepy down a gravel road I thought omg im going to be on the ID channel!!!

But I digress. Sorry. Lol
