Infertility

Higher sensitivity as you go?

So today is my 6th day on Follistim and tonight's shot hurt like a BITCH! None of the others have hurt so much! This hurt with the needle going in, to me injecting the medication and pulling out and it still hurts 10 minutes later! Did you become more sensitive as you went along with the stims? I've been doing shots for about 3 weeks now, so why all of a sudden would it hurt so bad?

Re: Higher sensitivity as you go?

  • I noticed that some shots hurt more based on where I did them, I could move over like an inch and it wouldn't hurt at all. I also think the angle you hold the needle makes a difference

Yeah, I hope I just did it weird tonight, because I don't think I can deal with another week of that kind of pain!

    I'm a mess this week!

  • Omg yes! As time went on, it would huuuurt!! As pp said, move over a good inch or so in a non-bruised, non-pin-cushion spot and it should help. I learned this from a kind pharmacist who overheard me saying "blood" "pain" and "shots" in the same sentence :)
BFP #1 - chemical pregnancy, natural miscarriage at 7 weeks on 2/11/12 BFP #2 - u/s at 8 weeks showed a tiny fetal pole measuring at 6 weeks, heart rate slow at 94bpm. Natural miscarriage a few days later on 4/15/12 August 2012- Diagnosed with pancreatic divisum, September - ERCP w/stent placement. Fingers crossed this was the issue! Doc gave the go-ahead to start trying again. BFP #3 - Chemical pregnancy ending a few days after Thanksgiving 2012. Clearly my pancreas was not the issue. Doc told us to try one more time. BFP #4 - Chemical pregnancy ending in January 2013. Now I'm pissed. February- meeting with RE. Test results show I have a low egg reserve and DH has severely messed up sperm. Docs are quite confused as to how we're getting pregnant to begin with. Let the IVF games begin!! April - stim time!! 7R, 6F via ICSI, 5 made it to day 5, 3 look "good enough" to be sent for PGS testing. We are now the proud owners? Parents? Of 2 healthy frozen embryos. June - ugh. Lupron. So much Lupron. And Aygestin, and Estrogen, and Progesterone suppositories. Things are going in to my body every way possible! July 25- scheduled for our first FET. Aaand huge fail. All of the estrogen gave my pancreas a good old fashioned hissy fit. Long story short, moving on to gestational carrier.
  • Omg yes!!

Three ectopic preganacies in left tube in 1999, 2003 and 2004. HSG in 2010 concluded left tube blockage. IUI with femara in 2012 BFN. IVF #1 June 2013, 20 retreived, 14 mature, 12 fertilized via ICSI, one transferred, four frozen, BFN.  FET in September 2013 - BFN:( FET #2 April 2014 - BFP!!!!

  • They do recommend that you switch sides of your stomach or wherever you are putting your shot in.
  • I rotate sides of my stomach, but I think it might also hurt a bit more (for me anyways) when I get more into it b/c the excitement wore off and I am so over sticking needles in my belly.

DH came home and I discovered I ran out of ice cream and just started crying! What is wrong with me!?

  • Someone on here mentioned that right below the button belly hurts... They were right! I avoid that spot and I find it to be less painful. And as PP mentioned, rotate sides and try not to go where there is a bruise or mark from a previous night.

It's all the hormones coursing through your body!
Anecdote: Once during the stim phase DH and I were watching a movie ("Jessie + Celeste Forever," good movie, I recommend it). Somehow it affected me so deeply that I started crying, and then it became less about the movie and more about my stress and pain and I started sobbing hysterically. It was like that moment in "Saved by the Bell" when Jessie Spano freaked out and started sobbing after taking diet pills, crying "I'm so excited." That was the most out of the blue, weirdest freak-out (until the 2ww, which is a different joy).

This! I learned that going over more to the side of my belly button hurt less than underneath the belly button. DH did my injections and they were painless once we learned where to inject best.

This was right below my belly button! I hope that was what was wrong! I have been rotating sides, but after 3 weeks, I am running out of blank stomach space! lol

Aww, I am glad I am not the only weepy one. I couldn't believe I actually cried about not having ice cream! I knew I sounded crazy while crying and I just couldn't stop myself! Dh felt bad though and ran out to get me ice cream at 10:30 at night! Crisis averted I guess! lol
