Just found out and help! (Tmi)

I just found out I'm really early with twins. Maybe 5 weeks max. I had a positive test on 7/10 and based on my LMP I was guessing I was about 6 weeks 3 days. I have had minor spotting (brown) since Friday night, but last night I saw bright red. I went in first thing this morning. I don't have a lot of bleeding on a pad or anything, but when I urinate I notice a significant amount of blood comes then. (Sorry for TMI)The ultrasound revealed twins when I was just sure it was a miscarriage, so right now I'm just completely shocked but of course happy. My concern is the bleeding seems heavy to me and since the vag ultrasound and exam I've started having some cramping. We are doing bloodwork and following up with another ultrasound on 8/13. Just wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation or has any words of wisdom or advice. It's hard to be excited when seeing so much red!

    Congratulations!

The spotting is completely normal, even a little bit of red.  I had spotting from 7 weeks through 13 weeks pretty consistently are everyone is healthy in there.  I never had an explained reason other than we have a lot more blood volume with twins with more blood vessels that can get irritated).  Take comfort that your US after the spotting showed that everything was good!

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!

I had a very similar thing happen to me. I found out I was preggo and started bleeding a few days later I was told I was having an "inevitable miscarriage" bc they could only see a sac and no heartbeat. I was very upset bc my husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for a year now. We had blood work done and my levels doubled like they were supposed to so the Dr ordered an US for the following day. We went in and there's was no one but 2 heartbeats! We were ecstatic! So don't give up just yet, think positive!

That is exactly how I found out I was expecting twins. I had a lot of bleeding at 7w and thought for sure I was having a miscarriage and turns out it was twins. The bleeding stopped and I had brown blood until 10w & then more red blood at 11w. All is well with both babies and dr says completely normal.

    Congratulations!!

Chiming in to say that this is also how I found out I was carrying twins at 7w. I was also really scared that I was going to hear bad news and the OB instead gave me a whole different kind of shocker. If it helps (hopefully not TMI), I had bright red blood and cramps at 7w. I spotted brown blood here and there and bright red again around 9w. Since then, it's stopped.

I had 3.5 weeks of bleeding and spotting too and now everything is fine.

    Congratulations on your twins.

Usually red blood for me isn't a good sign (I've had two m/c), so when I started bleeding bright red blood the day after my NT scan at 12 weeks I was horrified. BUT, I was just doing a little too much and busted a blood vessel and babies are doing absolutely perfect in there. I think bleeding is even more common with a multiple pregnancy.

    Good luck!

    First of all - Congrats!

I've gone through what you're going through and I completely understand your plight. At 4 weeks I found out I'm pregnant (home pregnancy test) and at 5 weeks I had my first ultrasound which confirmed my pregnancy. Later, I started spotting and it was pretty scary. I went in and got myself checked and my OB placed me on crinone gel 8% to stop the spotting/bleeding. At 9 weeks I had my second ultrasound and found out that I was carrying twins. Also to let you know I have a bicornuate uterus - that makes things a lot tougher and different, and on that in my 6th month I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Yup! I have lots going on, and I'm just hanging in... ;)

However, with all that's been said and done I was on complete rest during my first trimester. It's during my second that things started going pretty well. The babies are doing absolutely fine and by God's grace today I am 37w2d. I have my c-sec scheduled for next Friday - YIPEE!!! Bleeding/spotting is pretty common with multiple pregnancy and also keep in mind that's why multiple pregnancies are considered high risk pregnancy. Whenever in doubt or scared just drop in at your OB's clinic - I never regret doing that. I've had episodes of hospitalization and I've walked in and out L&D and believe me I'm glad for every time I walked in. At least today I'm confident and in comfort that my babies are doing fine and I did my best to make sure they're doing well. This is my first pregnancy and I am doing all that I can to be strong and safe.

Just be positive and confident in what you do. Make sure you trust your OB and are very comfortable with him/her. Rest will follow... All the best. God bless you three.
