Parenting after a Loss

Is this a m/c?

I don't even know what to think.  DH and I are not actively TTC and are pretty staunchly OAD after the birth of DD.

I started the mini-pill 2 months ago, and please don't flame me, but I have been taking it wrong.  Yes, I am the dumb@ss 5% user error.  I feel so stupid.  I didn't know all 4 rows of pills were active pills, and didn't take the last row both months thinking they were a placebo.  I am extremely embarrassed to admit that, but I think it is important to the issue I am having.

Anyways, this month, AF was almost a week and a half late (I took 2 HPTs and got BFNs) and the whole time it has been super light flow and very dark brown to dark red.  This morning I had a few flecks of gray tissue or something (very minute amount) with a small amount thick dark purple/brown blood.

I had a loss at 9 weeks that was pretty intense and nothing like this and a loss at 4.5 weeks that was a BO that was just a gush of red blood.

Is it possible to have a very early loss with no major cramping and no intense red bleeding or does this just sound like a wonky period as my body gets used to the mini pill?  I know no one know for sure, I guess I am more asking what your initial thought is because I am freaking out a bit that in my stupidity I lost another baby.

  • I'm no Dr, but I would guess a wonky period.

  • Like you said, there's no way we could know for sure.

That said, that you got 2 bfns leads me to think no. FWIW, I have had some wonky adjustments to pills over the years, and AF being a little late was one of them. I have also passed some clots during times I for sure was not pg (on pill) and the doc said it was normal. Could the 'tissue' be CM?

Also, even if it were a c/p, nothing you did caused it.

Thanks, Junebug. I very much appreciate your kind words.  I just feel like such an idiot.  You have made me feel quite a bit better.

I agree with Junebug. When I was on the pill I had periods exactly like you describe the first few months on them and the first few off of them. I understand the fear of another loss, but based on the BFNs I would say wonky period versus loss.

  • I would say wonky period. I did something with my BCPs when I was younger thinking it would hold off AF on my trip but no, it screwed me up royally.

  • I would say no, only because of the negative tests. And though this might not be the case for you - but when I was on hormonal BC I had the most intense, and all over the place AF's. I'd have some that last for two weeks. Then skip over a month, then have the lighter AF ever ... It was so ridiculous that I swore of BC ever since :P

If you really are concerned about an mc, is there a possibility to get betas done at your doctors office, just to be sure?

  • I would just say crazy cycle, likely caused by the pill being taken oddly. Unless you got a BFP, I would never assume m/c. Ever.
