Pregnant after 35

Anyone have experience with- new to board.

HI there:

New here. Not expecting but DH and I keep thinking about it. I am 36 and he is 38 (39 next month). We have a wonderful 4.5 year old daughter who always keeps us smiling. We always thought we would have 2 children but just have not had a time that we decided to try again. But we think about all the time. :) Yet also think we are so far past the baby days with diapers etc.

My question or just wondering anyone else experience.... my DH was diagnosed with Rhematoid Arthritis in Jan. He is currently on Methtrexate. His doctor did say that if we were to decide to have another... he would need to go off that for at least 3 months before we could try. My GYN also agreed with this. I guess they can put him on something else that doesn't have the side effects. I guess I just feel like it is working and is it selfish to make him change his plan of treatment. Just didn't know if anyone else any experience with this.

Thank you!

  • No experience with the meds.. But do have experience with having a baby 7 years after my "last"!! Also had a tough time conceiving this one - took 14 months and 1 miscarriage! With my other 3 my DH just had to look at me and I ended up pregnant!! ;). The advice I would offer is this.. If you have talked about having another one, do it. You don't want to get 10 years down the road and regret having not put the effort in to try.

Have you done research into the prognosis difference the other medication offerings would have?  That could make a pretty big difference to me.  Since RA is degenerative, I would be leery about going off something that is working for any amount of time - particularly since he's going to need to be as healthy as possible to keep up with another infant!

Also - I'd look into forums for RA sufferers for different perspectives.  They might have more experience with this kind of decision, imo.
