Moving to OH- recommendations?
Hi all,
My family is in the midst of relocating to the Columbus, OH area. We are looking for houses in the Westerville and Granville area and would love your recommendations on housing, pediatricians... really anything. I have been to Columbus when I was much younger, but haven't been for about 20 + years. We live in Iowa right now, and have almost all family 2 hours away, so I am really scared, but excited for this change. We have 2 kids- my son is 3.5 and my daughter is 21 months old. Both are getting genetics testing on Thursday (my son for BWS and my daughter for TSC or NF-1). My son has been relatively healthy (although he had croup again last night after a 6 month hiatus- not sure when he will grow out of this, or if we need to talk again to his ENT) and he is hitting his milestones alright. My daughter is a recovering feeding refuser and has shown skin signs of possible TSC or NF-1 (cafe-au-lait marks and hyperpigmentations) and since April, has been having 'possible' seizures (had 2 EEGs and an MRI that came back with no answers). So, looking for some doctors (Ped, Neuro, Ophthalmologist, ENT and children's hospital (wow- we see a lot of specialists- don't realize till I write it down!)) and any recommendations for drop in daycares, good places to go with the kids (I am able to quit my job and become a SAHM- so excited
), or anything else you can give me. We don't have a house yet, so if there are better places close to Columbus to look at (for schools, crime, etc) please let me know. We are Midwesterner's, but can acclimate pretty easily (is OH still considered Midwest?).

Welcome to Columbus! I lurk here from time to time, my younger son has ASD. I can't offer a whole lot of specifics regarding the specialists you are looking for, but Nationwide Children's Hospital is the local pediatric hospital. It is on the east side of Columbus, but also has satellite Close to Home Centers throughout the area.
As far as locations and schools, there are many good areas. I would say that Dublin and Olentangy districts are good, housing can be expensive in those districts. They are generally the best regarded as far as special needs. Other good districts are Hilliard, Westerville, and Worthington. Don't know too much about Granville schools, but it is a bit of a hike from town.
Step by Step Pediatrics in Westerville is a great practice for your primary pediatrician and they can refer as needed.
I have been lucky to work part time and use family for childcare so no help on daycares either. As far as things to do around town with kids, definitely the Columbus Zoo and COSI is fun also. We have annual memberships to both, and are well worth it. Let me know if I can be of anymore help, and GO BUCKS!
