Any Realtor moms out there??

I have been a busy Realtor for 9 years and am now juggling a career and baby... How is everyone doing? I take my DD to showings, walk thrus, etc when I don't have someone to watch her. I have had some meltdowns because I feel like I have all this work to do and not a lot of time. I am about to hire an assistant...

  • Just my 2 cents...I think it's inappropriate for you to take her to showings and walk throughs. Your clients are paying you and that is your job. I would not take my baby to my job. Having her at home when you need to make phone calls and do stuff from home is one thing, but anything client facing, she should not be going with you.

  • So, if you went to your doctors appointment and you OB was in the middle of your exam and her infant was screaming in the corner, would you be bothered? Or the teller at the bank, counting out your money while her baby cried?

  • Well as some that recently bought a house....my realtor would come on a drop of a hat, night time, etc to show me a house if I was in the neighborhood, etc. I totally wouldnt mind if she brought her kid during those kind of showings.

But if it was a planned scheduled meeting, I would probably be slightly annoyed. Unless it was an oops, like the babysitter cancelled, etc. Then I would understand.

Well yes, same here, if it were unplanned I would understand. But not really for a sitter cancelling, unless she checked with me first I guess. But as a working mom, if my daycare closes for any reason, I have to find back up care. It's never an option to bring my children to my job.

I wouldn't mind my realtor having a baby with her to show a house. Kids running around getting into things would bug me, but a baby isn't keeping her from doing her job, or potentially messing anything up.

That said, I'd be up front about it when signing contracts, so if it does bother the client, they can be vocal about it or choose another realtor.

OP- an assistant sounds like a great idea just for your sanity! I am not a realtor myself, but I imagine being on call all the time for both baby and clients would get extremely tiring!

That is not really what I meant. I am very professional and I even think it is inappropriate for me to bring my child. If I have a scheduled appointment with a client, I most definitely arrange for child care. My husband watched my DD ALL WEEKEND! But people call and want Realtors to drop everything and show them a house... It used to be no problem but now I can't just let the kid stay in her pack and play while I run out.
