T&P needed. Tough week.

On Wednesday night at 6:30p my house caught on fire. I had lit a candle in the semi finished basement because I thought it smelled musty. About an hour later I thought I smelled smoke but wasn't sure and thought I had burned food in the stove burner. A few seconds later I heard what I thought was fireworks going off in my basement and then my husband was screaming from the basement that the house was on fire. He literally had to run past a wall of fire to get out. DD1 is almost 10 y/o and I just screamed "get out of the house!!" I've never seen her move so fast...or cry so hard. I grabbed the baby and ran. DD1 was in soccer shorts, barefoot and in a tank top. LO had nothing but a onesie on. I'm so glad our dog followed us. We just flew across the street to my neighbors driveway. It took the fire department 3 hours to put it all out. Our house is a total loss. I am so eternally grateful that everyone made it out ok but it's still a devastating loss. We are staying at my in-laws while the house is rebuilt. I am a licensed P&C agent and I am still overwhelmed by the insurance process. Just looking for some thoughts, prayers and pixie dust. And venting....it's been a very rough couple of days. Thursday was LO's 1 month birthday. Her entire nursery is destroyed. :-( Still.....it's just stuff.

Oh my goodness I'm so sorry! Sending you many T & Ps. I can't imagine. So glad you're all ok, that's the most important thing. But I can't imagine losing absolutely everything. I'm so sorry mama. ::hugs::

Totally agree about stuff being more than stuff, so sorry for you! My dad's house burned down a couple years ago and they used the event to build their dream house. I know it's unbearably hard right now but I'm positive everything will be ok, good luck!!

Thank you all. I'm having moments where I've completely got it together and other times where I'm just a mess. My dad passed away 2 years ago so losing the record collection, record player and other things of his are awful. My pictures. Wedding dress. All of that is pretty upsetting. My H has such raw emotions right now. He is someone who is covered in tattoos and you'd think he's such a punk tough guy....but he's not and I've never seen him cry so much in 10 years. My oldest DD is having a hard time. She is so upset about all of her toys but we are trying to make it easier on her. I went to Target to get her a couple Monster High dolls and a pair of flip flops. Chapstik. Just some stuff to make her feel more "normal".

Times like this remind you of how wonderful strangers can be though. When the fire started I was making the baby her bottle, so we ran out of the house when she was hungry. A total stranger from down the street brought me a few bottles and some containers of ready pour formula. We have had more donations than we know what to do with. It's very humbling.

Thanks again for the T&P. I really hope this is all resolved quickly and we can just get back to our normal lives again. Optomistic estimate is 3 months. Ugh.

I am sorry to hear about your house fire. In November I lost everything to a house fire and it has been really rough. It is just stuff but it was MYstuff an took me years and years to collect my stuff. I had 4 kids at the time and just moved and our insurance didn't cover ALOT so we basically where left with nothing. It has been the most challenging time in my life. I feel for my kids because we can't replace ALOT of the things they had before. To make matters worse 2 months later my hubby's company downsized and he lost his job. It sounds like you have a good attitude which is great and I wish you luck. I just had my baby girl and she is the bright spot in all this ugly mess.
