NBA: Question regarding our cleaning lady

We have a cleaning lady that will come sporadically when we ask her to, maybe about once every couple of months just to give me a break from my least favorite activity in the world. Anyway, she broke the glass of a picture frame, a really nice wedding frame. Granted I can just replace the glass since luckily the frame wasn't broken. But this makes me wonder, do you think it should be her responsibility to replace things that she breaks while cleaning, or is it just a risk I take having someone else clean, and therefore my responsibility?

Re: NBA: Question regarding our cleaning lady

  • Anyone who does work in your home should be insured.  That being said, it is just a piece of glass.  Maybe talk to her about it and let it slide since this is a first offense type of thing?  Is it expensive to replace?
This exactly.  Is she a professional, licensed, bonded, insured cleaner, or just somebody you pay cash under the table?  If the latter, I think you're SOL, unless you have her sign something.  But if it is the former, then for more significant issues, she should be covered.

  • I think it depends on the item. My cleaning lady also broke a frame recently but since the frame wasn't expensive and the photo was intact, it was NBD to me. Now, if she broke something valuable then I would talk to her about replacing it, or helping pay for the cost of fixing/replacing it.

I think I'd let this one go.

  • Accidents happen.  I wouldn't ask her to replace it.
Our previous lady was someone we paid cash so we'd have been SOL if she broke something expensive... our new people are from a company so they're insured & all that hooplah.
  • Our cleaning lady works for the building we live in part time, but I've hired her under the table. I might switch cleaning ladies anyway because she doesn't do that great of a job and is kind of expensive. I have let it go about the glass because it's not expensive or valuable.

  • I've also have had problems w my monthly cleaning lady, she damaged black out shades $60, broke ceiling fan blade $30 and hand held mirror... I've replaced them, if something else major breaks I can't afford her and my stuff! Mine is paid under table... Good luck!
