Daycare - sick days

How many sick days (i.e., days LO cannot go to daycare) would you say your LO has had in the past year?  DS has probably had to stay home 4-5 days and I've had pick him up early because he's had a fever (or otherwise not feeling well) maybe a total of 6-7 times but he's better by morning so he's been allowed to go in.  I'm not really complaining - even if that's a lot, we love his daycare so much we'd still stay - but I'm just wondering where those #s fall in the average?

Re: Daycare - sick days

  • So far he was kept home for 2 days last week for HFM, and 2 other days (separately) for a fever.  Had to pick him up early and then they require 24 hours out after that with no fever.

  • LO missed 5-6 days total.   I've never had to pick her up early.  In fact at her old daycare I picked her up one day and when we got home she had 102 degree fever that they hadn't noticed (she was acting totally fine).  There rule (same with the other two centers we've been at and the school I teach at) is 24 hours fever free.  I'm surprised your center lets them come back the next day.  I would think that might add more sickness.

  • It's been around 7-10 days, I cannot accurately recall because my boss is amazing and has let me work from home/make up the time, so it's not logged anywhere in our time system.  DH has also taken off with him some, so it's not just me.  I think we are pretty average in total days sick, based on watching when the other babies have not been present in DS' class, and when I asked, it turned out they were ill.

I'm amazed they let you bring them the day after a fever..

I should have probably been more specific. each of those fevers was right around the 100 degree mark so just at the cutoff and he had no other symptoms of being sick. but I get what you're saying.

  • When he first started it was a lot like once every 2 weeks for a couple of months so I think 4 times. Now that it is summer it has calmed down, I am dreading winter...
  • Our day care is pretty strict with the fever rule, if you are even a tenth of a degree past the cut off you have to be absent for 24 hrs. LO's first year she had HFM, so that was sent home on a Monday and out all week. Other than that there was maybe 2-3 send home and stay out the next day, and then about 2 more that were on a friday that I lucked out with. This year it's been about the same- a few pick up early/out the next day and one or two pick up early on a friday. Half were for fevers and half were for stomach bugs.
  • Maybe 4?
