Protein Problems

My LO will be 1 in about 2 weeks. We are having a hard time getting her to eat protein finger foods other than cheese. She will eat fresh mozzarella, and most other soft cheeses.  She also eats watermelon, banana, avocado, pancakes, pastina (at times), melon, cherrios, tortellini, and a few other soft foods. I have tried chicken, homemade meatballs, homemade chicken fingers and egg yolks.  She rejects all of it! We have started weaning her onto milk so that when she hits a year she will be fully off the formula.  I'm worried that she wont be getting enough protein once she stops drinking the formula so I have been trying to get her to eat some of it. Any suggestions?

Re: Protein Problems

  • My LO loves toast with hummus! Beans are great protein. She also loves quesadillas and she will eat anything I put inside. She isn't a fan of meat but will eat it in a quesadilla. She'll also eat it dipped in applesauce.

  • try yogurt.. though I hate to admit it my girl loves chicken nuggets (or chicken patties), the quesadillas are a great option too..

My nephew is a meat hater as well and they have had to put him on an iron supplement - but he still grows and is still healthy so try not to stress about it - if you stress about it they notice.

Other forms of protien as pp mentioned are great too - heck my little one loves the garden grillers garden burgers (which a mom in the pump room at work recommended for littles) - she gobbles them up.. so sometimes you just need to find what works - I think MEAT can be hard as its hard to chew!

  • cottage cheese - my lo shovels it into her mouth by the fist full.

also as previous posters have mentioned - yogurt and beans (black beans are a great finger food)
