Naps

The "normal" for kids to transition to one nap is around 15 months, right? So, how much sleep per day do 1 year olds actually need? DS was sleeping maybe 9 or 10 hours at night plus 2 two hour naps during the day. His naps have been seriously inconsistent for over a week now. 45 mins here, 2 and a half hours there, skipping afternoon naps, pushing back naps two hors later than normal. Teething can't be the only cause. DS is sleeping 11 hours or more at night now. This is recent. Is anyone having these weird sleep pattern changes that make you think LO is dropping down to one nap a day? Some days I think he can make it with only one then he takes a late afternoon nap that lasts for 2 hours. Some days he does fine with only one nap. I'm so confused.

Re: Naps

  • Sleeping is the most confusing shit ever!!! I'm on baby number 2 and I still don't have it figured out. If only these kiddos would tell us what is going on.
Yesterday she took 1 nap in target for an hour from 9:30-10:30 then was awake until 7pm.

  • I just posted this. Now is a prime time for nap weirdness, I think. Maybe they're gearing up to drop the morning nap soon? Ds' morning nap is all over the place. Sometimes he'll fight me for an hour, sometimes he just goes right to sleep, sometimes he sleeps for 1.5 hours, sometimes only 30 minutes. He doesn't seem ready at all to drop the morning nap yet, but I think he's gearing up to drop it.

I'm just going with the flow until he seems noticably ready for one nap.

  • @JayandEmm

Is W cranky or happy when he had his short naps? R, oddly, is normally happy.

He seems okay with it. Although, he rubs his eyes until the next nap.

Sometimes it hard to tell the difference between tired cranky and his normal crankiness, though. Lol.

  • Ds has slept 12-13 hrs at night and takes a 3-4 hr nap since he was 9 mo. I think the key to naps is to look at how much night time sleep they are getting.
