Hi all
My 13 month old son wants to eat constantly. Or so it seems. When he's home or at his Grandmothers. We work full time so he's at home on the weekends, daycare 3 days a week and Grandma's two days a week. He will express his desire for food anywhere from 1-3 hours after his last meal. And he eats well too, he doesn't typically take a couple of bites and push the rest away. This has been going on for at least 7 days now. He's tall, 86th percentile for height and 60th percentile for weight.
Has anyone else encountered this? Should I be concerned that he's eating out of habit or could he be really that hungry?
Re: 13 month old eats a lot
DD, now 14 months, eats ALL. THE. TIME. I think she'd be quite happy if we just left the fridge open for her. She eats really well at mealtimes, has 2 sit-down snacks a day (as I don't like getting banana in my rug), and then will craze on puffs in between. We only offer food if she's asking or is super cranky, which she gets when she's hungry. She's at the top of the charts both weight and height, so she's proportional, just has a fast metabolism. Sometimes, during a growth spurt, she'll want more. I wouldn't worry.

DD is 14months and she also eats a lot! We allow her to eat as much as she wants at meal times and if she is cranky we know she needs a snack.
However, I will be a dissenting voice about them eating out of habit. We have my parents living with us and my DH works long hours and has a schedule that doesn't always match up to meal times. Needless to say with four grown adults in the house food is eaten throughout the day (not just meal times) and for DD it HAS become habit for her to go up to ANYONE who is eating and request/demand some of what they have. Even if this is within minutes of her telling us she was done eating her own food.
In these situations I have often resitricted her from getting more. Mostly because I know she is not truly hungry, and sometimes because the food she is requesting is not particularly healthy for her.
After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!
