The hospital told me I should get Draven into our doc office within 4 days of being dismissed. We don't have a pediatrician but have taken DD there since birth, its our family doctor. Well, Friday after I was dismissed, I called to set up an appt and they want to wait 2 weeks because of so many illnesses going around. She said they have been packed every day and don't want him to be exposed, which I totally understand that part of it. I'm just wondering ladies, did you get your baby into the doc right away or wait?

Re: Newborn first doc appt?
We followed the hospital's instructions.
Can you ask your family doctor for the very first appointment of the morning? That way you can get in and out before the crowds.
Edit: I wasn't done TB!

With my second, we had to wait 2 weeks for the actual pedi because of some weird illness going around too.
However, all the hospital really wanted was a weight/jaundice check anyways..so we took LO back to the maternity ward and the nurses just weighed/looked for jaundice there.
Is that an option?
They wanted us to go in 2 days after discharge. They wanted to check his weight, and make sure he was eating good. Also, they wanted to make sure he wasn't getting jaundice.
I would schedule an appt. and ask for one of the first appts. of the day. And keep him covered while you are in there.
