2nd Trimester

Conflicting info...

Hey, 2nd trimester ladies!

I've read up in several books/websites about when exactly trimester 2 begins...and I've been getting conflicting information. Some say week 13, the Bump says week 14, and some say week 12. I just completed week 12 and and working on week 13. Anyone have input?

Looking forward to beginning trimester 2...  :)

Re: Conflicting info...

  • I would take a 40 week pregnancy and divide by 3. So... 13w 3d is 2nd tri, 3rd tri is 26w 5d.

But, whatever, 12, 13, 14 it's all pretty much the same. I knew that the mc rate dropped significantly at 12w so that was the milestone I cared more about at that point.

  • My thought were always it really doesn't matter. 12 to 14 weeks doesn't make a huge difference.
  • I say 14 weeks. It's a lot easier.

  • My pregnancy book said the second trimester begins at 13 weeks, so once i hit that mark I assumed I was in the second trimester.
  • All of the above are correct. One is diving 40 by 3, one is developmental (when the baby stops being an embryo and becomes a fetus) and I forget the milestone of the other version.  Essentially, they are all right, so you can choose which one you like the best. I go by the developmental one.

  • The other is 38 divided by 3, since your not actually pregnant for the first two weeks of the 40 week pregnancy.

But I agree with others that it doesn't make a huge difference.

My book also said 13 weeks. Either way, you got a little one growing :)

Or, 38 is considered "full term".
