Ehhh, we live in a very, very politically correct world. I get that someone will be offended by something no matter what but I think we should choose to get testy over something a bit more offensive next time. I just feel like this is reaching a bit.
FWIW, I have a boy and a girl (team green on the way) so clearly this is not as sensitive of a topic for me. Tons of people have told me that I have a "million dollar family" and I just laugh. I would obviously feel like I have a million dollar family if I had two boys or two girls. No one is putting down anyone else's family.
This is truly not a topic or a term worth fighting over.
Congrats! Seriously, you're really offended by that? When I think of the "allAmerican family" I think of one boy, one girl, the dog, the working man, the stayathome mom and the white picket fence. Not offended here said the military wife and mom of all boys. I love all of the crazy men in my life. ;nbsp;
Well, aren't you open minded.
Ha! Seriously. Just when I thought it couldn't get anymore stereotypical...
I guess working moms are "less American" than stay at home moms. Who knew?

I have a cat. And baby boy #2 on the way. And a brown privacy fence. I might as well defect. ;-)

Seriously, ladies! Calm down!! I have two boys, no dog and no white picket fence. I feel perfectly American. It is a term and people do use it. Do you really think you're less American because you don't have a boy and a girl. This argument is actually hilarious. Are we in elementary school?

So, because you weren't offended by it, than no one should be? Okay.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just don't understand WHY they are offended. You're mad because she said she felt like she had the "all-American" family, is it because you genuinely are offended because you feel like she is calling you LESS American then she is? It's funny to me. I feel like my three year old would get in an argument like this. I'm entitled to my opinion just like you are! And my opinion is that in America there are starving children, poverty, murders, rapes, etc. and we as AMERICANS should probably focus our attention to things that matter. That is all.

All some of us were saying initially was that maybe that phrase shouldn't be used. No I certainly don't actually think my family is any less American, but I do find it annoying when it's insinuated that to have one boy and one girl is somehow ideal. Which is what that phrase insinuates, IMO. I can already hear people asking me if we are going to have a 3rd baby to "try for a girl" since of course we won't be happy with just two boys, right? Phrases like "All American Family" just perpetuate that myth/stereotype, in my opinion.

Apparently you don't understand sarcasm. And apparently you completely misunderstood the point about the phrase "all American family" not having a true definition. No one said the word American was not a term. Reading comprehension fail, huh?
And for the love of jujubes, those of us who are on the opposing side as you are perfectly calm. Disagreeing with you does not equal not being calm.
You have definitely shown your true colors with your statement about your best friend beating up mrs.jenni's best friend. That is something that I personally won't forget. You can play this holier than thou crap, but that's all it is. Crap. Sh*t. Fake.
And I know you won't address it because you're too much of a coward to admit that that was a horrendously immature thing to say. But don't worry, we all know anyway.

Ha! I was being facetious but it was apparently lost on you. Are you particularly bored today? I find this whole thread so incredibly immature that I purposefully wrote an immature thing to prove my point.
If it makes you feel any better, I promise that my gay BFF isn't even a little bit interested in beating up her gay BFF so no one needs to get nervous about any threats. Feel better?

Oh no, I totally got what you were trying to do. But your facetiousness ended up being a tool to display your immaturity. No one else made an immature comment. I'd like to see you try to point one out.
And to answer your question, no, not particularly bored. I don't think you know me well. If you did, you'd know that your particular brand of crap doesn't fly with me.

LOL at you being sooo mature that you needed to point out the immaturity of this.
OP said something that could be and was offensive to some. It was pointed out to her. You weren't offended. Big f'ucking deal. Others were. Just because you weren't doesn't mean no one should be. Truly, end of story.

I know I'm late to the game on this thread and nobody will probably even read this but I just had a thought on the topic. I would like to preface this post by saying I'm new to the game (baby game and public forum/TB) and I know that most of you know more than me in many many arenas. Also, I see where both sides are coming from, truly. It personally would not offend me but I know many friends and family members that it very well may have.
That being said, I understand in public forums that disagreements are bond to occur. It's just par for the course. And when you post, no matter what it is, you are welcoming people to share their opinion on what you have said. It seems to me that the OP wasn't trying to be offensive. And I know that does not change the fact that some of you were offended by her word choice. I just hate that such an amazing thing like finding out the sex of the child you're carrying can turn into an argument. In a perfect world maybe people could PM the OP and explain their feelings and ask politely if they would consider editing their post. It just seems like a better choice than embarrassing someone who most likely didn't mean to offend anyone. I know this won't change anything but I still wanted to share my thoughts. And again, I also know that if you can't handle hearing other people's opinions you shouldn't be on a public forum.

Well, MY gay BFF and his husband would think this the absolute dumbest argument ever. And I bet my gay BFF could beat up your gay BFF. LOL.
You're sure doing a lot of "arguing" for someone who doesn't think it's worth it.
And all I said was the original comment was offensive, which it was... um, because people were offended by it.
