Hmm, no takers yet. Guess I'll get us started then.
I think that people who buy a new car right off the lot and finance it are financial idiots. Unless you've got so much extra cash sitting around that you can buy the brand new car outright, then you probably should be buying a used car.
I bought a brand new car, off the lot, financed through my bank at 1.75%...does this make me stupid? And I didn't even spend the full amount they loaned me. I thought it was a good deal!
I feel bad for the dogs and cats in the siggys who are dyed funky colors. That had to be traumatic for them.

Yea but you loose the warranty buying used. Cars can and will fall apart and that's where you will be spending your money. So really either way will suck your wallet dry. Plus, depending on how someone drives, a year of miles might be more than 15,000. I bought my car last January and I have 50,000 miles on it. Buying used and leasing are not an option for me.
Have you ever tried to get parts covered by the warranty on your vehicle?
For sure? Actually my car now is the only car I have ever bought with miles on it. A demo car, I think like 5,000. I am 10,000 miles over the warranty for the new parts I need. Nothing crucial but still it sucks. I am also someone who drives their car into the ground. I will have 200,000 miles in this before I think about getting rid of it.
I'm not really sure if that was a yes or no answer. My experience with the warranty on my vehicle (which my mom encouraged me to pay extra for the platinum super duper package!) was that when something broke, I would call the company to get it covered under warranty and they would have some fantastic wording and reasoning as to why it wouldn't be covered. I also learned the hard way that if your mechanic is an idiot and can't figure out an issue for two years and finally realizes what is wrong but you have exceeded the mileage covered on your warranty, they will not honor the mileage of when you originally reported the problem.
It was a yes answer. I have never had a problem using my warranty before. I have always had to fix something on my cars. My gripe now is having less time to use it, since there was already miles on it, and not even that much.
I have also heard your story before so I guess it can go both ways.
I haven't had coffee yet this morning, so I hope that made some sort of sense.
3. The kind of person who buys a new car is rarely the kind of person who drives it for the entire life of the car. Though you're right, if you do that, it may be an okay decision--if you didn't finance it.
This is a stereotype! ::said with the valley girl accent:: I just bought my second brand new car...the first has been paid off for 7 years and we plan to drive it into the ground. The second, I will have much longer because it's a better quality vehicle.
I agree. Growing up, my parents always bought new cars, but my DH's family always bought preowned. We bought our first car together after we got married and decided to buy preowned and ended up having to fixed a few things on it after a couple months. I think it all depends on one's financial situation and preference. I don't thinking buying a brand new car is for everyone, but it sure is nice!
What scares me about pre-owned is they are usually coming off of leases - and I know quite a few people that lease cars and beat the ever living sh*t out of them (no oil changes, hard driving in general) because they're just going to turn it in anyway... I also know people who specialized in rolling back the odometers, but I don't think that can be done as easily anymore. But I do get the depreciation factor in buying new.
I bought my car new in 2006 and paid it off 3 years later - I plan on driving it to at least 100,000 miles (only at about 70k now). I think if your long term plan is to own the car for 10+ years, then buying new makes sense.
Stalking me for my parking spot while you could have been parked and in the store already. 2 PM on a Wednesday is not busy time for bulk shopping.
This sorta goes along with parking, I HATE expecting mothers parking. Just because your pregnant doesn't mean you shouldn't be walking! I sorta think ppl are lazy that actually use the spots. I always park towards the end of lots just to get some extra exercise! I live in an area where obesity is a HUGE problem, no pun intended lol. Ppl should stop worrying so much about how close they park to the doors! Unless maybe your running late!
I agree with this. Pregnant women should walk. Unless they have some medical issue; in this case, they should be home as directed.

I think that people who buy a new car right off the lot and finance it are financial idiots. Unless you've got so much extra cash sitting around that you can buy the brand new car outright, then you probably should be buying a used car.
True! My old boss's husband would tell her they had to have a car note because it made financial sense and helped their credit. I wanted to bash that idiot over the head. Literally, the month they would pay off a car, they would go buy a brand new one. So silly.
I bought my SUV at a year old with less than 10,000 miles for half of the original purchase price. It still smelled brand new and like leather and had absolutely nothing wrong with it. Basically got a $35,000 dollar truck for under 15,000 out the door from an online auction in Cleveland. Flew up there the next weekend with a mechanic friend to check things out before I signed the last paperwork, picked it up, and have been driving it for 6 years with no problems at all.
I HATE pink sports apparel....They are not the Pink Sox...they are the RED Sox (or White Sox). There are plenty of "girly" options in the correct team colors...but really who cares, at sports games you are not trying to be "girly" you are there to watch the game. if you are not interested don't go!
^this from a bitter Boston sports fan where our tickets are a million dollars and limited space with tons of bandwagoner fans
Ugh I cannot agree more. As an avid Baltimore sports fan, nothing p's me off more than seeing a pink Flacco jersey or pink Orioles clothes. Real fans wear the colors of their team. And although you and I may disagree on this (lol) I happen to think our Baltimore colors are awesome and why would anyone want to crap them up with pink!? I say this being a very girly person and loving almost everything else pink in the world.
I can get on board with the pink apparel being dumb for grown women...let's face it, orange and blue is flattering on everybody...but, for babies, pink is adorbs!!
Totally disagree with this. I've only bought new since becoming an adult.I would never pay in full because I get zero percent interest..I also have always paid well below the msrp. Financially, it makes much more sense for me to get a new car. I've priced out the different options many times. I
Exactly. If you could get 0% interest on a loan why would you pay a huge lump sum of cash for the car? By doing that, the loan company is making the interest off your money! It makes much more sense, financially, to keep that money in your own bank account where *you* would be earning the interest on it.
If someone is financing your car at 0%, they are adding the finance cost somewhere else in the price of the car. No lending institution is going to take a loss on the loan. When I see a 0% interest sale as a buyer, this is a sure bet I can negotiate a lower cash price because I know they've built that interest rate into the price of the car.

I love my new cars.
I will probably never buy used again. I hate having to fix even little things on a car. I'd rather not even have to think about it.
Me, too! I drove my used cars from high school through college and then when my first job was almost a 2 hour drive, went new! No regrets at all, with the exception that the new car was a total lemon. Traded it at the 2 year mark for another new one that was great. Traded again at the 3 year mark and kept that car until it was 3 years past paid off. Then bought my dream car which is now 2 years old and I hope to keep a long time.
I don't feel how I spend my money (or waste it!) is anyones business. I pay off my debts and love my new cars. Obviously, now that a child is finally becoming my reality, that will be something that changes. Along with huge vacations and many other things!
Now, my UO to relate to this, would be leased cars. My husband did that twice and talk about a ridiculous waste of money! If that is the only way you can afford a new car, then I totally agree you should go used. That, I admit I side eye!
My UO is that I think the people who are loosing their minds because Marc Anthony sang god bless America at the all star game need to have a seat and get facts straight before throwing out ignorant comments.

It's not that black and white... as listed earlier, I have some medical issues that cause pain but I was never directed to stay at home. I am a SAHM and groceries have to get purchased, etc. Just trying to do what I have to do with as little pain as possible. Those parking spots are very helpful.

Married my love 8-25-12
TTC #1 September 2012. BFP 2-2-13. DS born 10-16-13.
TTC #2 in December 2014. BFP 12-31-14. Expecting a September baby!
Mine is work related, but I work with babies so I'll go ahead and share....
Mom tries to breastfeed, baby is not getting any colostrum etc. But mom is adamant about ONLY breastfeeding, no bottle supplement. So 12 hours after birth, baby is in the NICU for low blood sugars. I can't tell you how many moms would rather have their babies poked several times for an IV to get fluids, not to mention have their heel poked every 2 to 3 hours for blood sugars, rather than give their baby a SMALL amount of formula after attempting to BF!! I am pro breast feeding, don't get me wrong, but WHYYY would you rather have your baby suffer through all that rather than give them a bottle?!?! Ugh!!!!!
That is INSANE to me. And at that point, it seems selfish. If its to the point that the baby needs IV fluids, give them formula!!
I totally agree, that's selfish.
I SO want to breastfeed but if it weren't to come in on time I of course would do whatever makes it easiest on my brand new baby!

I didn't think anything of it at the time but when I checked my feed this morning I saw a bunch of linked blogs and retweets from people who were sooo offended that they had him do it. HAHA!! This is funny to me... we JUST bought a brand new Acura MDX (right off the lot), although it will be paid off in a year... I suppose we are financially stupid. Why is it such a big deal... financing a used vs new, I know once you drive off the lot you lose money, but who cares if you can afford it! Plus, honestly I don't want to drive something someone else used to drive and fart in, HAHA!

Agree, 100%. Nobody in their right mind buys a brand new car to drive it for a year or two. The used cars people buy that have a few miles on them either were a) previously leased cars, b) company cars or c) had something seriously wrong with them. 99.9% of people don't have the disposable income to just buy a new car every few years, if they are changing cars every few years they are leasing. We have always either bought used or new and driven them to the ground, but for the future I'll probably stick with new.

Actually, my former step dad was that idiot. He bought a brand new Acura something or rather when he moved to San Diego (because a Honda Civic was soooo AZ). Two years later he decided that car wasn't good enough and traded it in for a brand new Corvette Z06 - $70K+ financed! He ended up going bankrupt because of it.

Why would you breath a sigh of relief? Was someone going to shackle you down and force pink crap on your daughter? Obviously it is a choice that the parents make and if you don't like it, then having a daughter and dressing her in other colors is a wonderful way to take a stand for what you believe.

Oh dear. That's a lot of money to spend on a car. Sounds like he couldn't afford it either, yikes! I personally am not that into cars, I just want something that gets me from point A to point B safely, but others define themselves by the car they drive so they spend exorbitant amounts of money on them.

I meant because then I don't even have to deal with people gifting a bunch of pink stuff and everything seems to be so gender based! Gender neutral doesn't exist very heavily in the stores.

Hahah. No.
My sigh of relief maybe.
But the fact that all pink on girls is overkill and I can't stand it...definitely an opinion and clearly unpopular.
My UO: I cannot STAND when parents of just ONE KID use the double cart at the grocery store (esp when that kid is old enough to WALK). There are so few of them at each store and then when someone who has TWO kids who need it come along - there are none left because you have your FREAKING 9 YEAR OLD in the double cart...

Huh?
People deal with grief in many different ways. Some get tatoos on their arm and such. It's not like she is driving around with her address and telephone number on her car.
I'm full of them today I think most baby furniture is cheap and ugly and that a lot of parents are duped into buying crap.I see nothing wrong with dressing my baby girl in pink and purple. And hair bows of every shape, size and color.I love baby shoes even though I know they are impractical.I do not find cat GIFs nearly as amusing as dog ones ::runs and hides from cat GIF lovers::[/quote
I agree with all this, every last bit. I'm having my step dad build my a crib and dresser/changing table. He's a carpenter and that way I can personally pick the type of wood and color stain I want
I already have tons of bows for LO and not really a cat person

It's not that black and white... as listed earlier, I have some medical issues that cause pain but I was never directed to stay at home. I am a SAHM and groceries have to get purchased, etc. Just trying to do what I have to do with as little pain as possible. Those parking spots are very helpful.
O13 March Siggy Contest: AnArChY (I do what I want- & I want FOUR GIFS!)
This is actually the first I've heard of it!
I totally agree, that's selfish.
I SO want to breastfeed but if it weren't to come in on time I of course would do whatever makes it easiest on my brand new baby!
Yeah, me too. People are total morons, what can I say. I'd be surprised if anyone here agreed with the sentiment that he shouldn't sing God Bless America for some reason, but then I've been surprised before.
I doubt it too, I think I was just a little surprised at the reaction it was getting. Although I probably shouldn't have been. The ladies here seem to be cut above the rest for the most part.
Which is like a trifecta of stupid, since Puerto Rico is part of the U.S.
I think most baby furniture is cheap and ugly and that a lot of parents are duped into buying crap.
I see nothing wrong with dressing my baby girl in pink and purple. And hair bows of every shape, size and color.
I love baby shoes even though I know they are impractical.
I do not find cat GIFs nearly as amusing as dog ones
::runs and hides from cat GIF lovers::
Actually, my former step dad was that idiot. He bought a brand new Acura something or rather when he moved to San Diego (because a Honda Civic was soooo AZ). Two years later he decided that car wasn't good enough and traded it in for a brand new Corvette Z06 - $70K+ financed! He ended up going bankrupt because of it.
Dh and I are orioles fans too!
I will NEVER wear any sports clothing that is pink. Ew.
I went to a Super Bowl party at my BIL's house and his friends wives were ALL wearing pink jerseys. I can't even effin tell what team you are rooting for!
Also...my UO
I breathed a sigh of relief when we found out we were having a boy.
I despise when baby girls are dressed in ALL pink and their car seat, stroller, diaper bag, blankets, etc etc etc is all pink too. ::gag::
What's wrong with some purple, gray, green etc?
I agree with everything here.

Agree with all this as well, except the cat GIF one, my opinion is just not that strong on the issue.
Hahah. No.
My sigh of relief maybe.
But the fact that all pink on girls is overkill and I can't stand it...definitely an opinion and clearly unpopular.

Yesterday I was in a Dunkin donuts drive thru, getting decaf, and the SUV in front of me had a stick figure family on the right back window. On the left side back window it said 'In loving memory of our son Nicolas, date,' and a BABY stick person under that. I don't even feel sorry for her for losing a kid...since she wants TOTAL strangers to know her buisness like that. WTF
Edited for mobile fluckery
Huh?
People deal with grief in many different ways. Some get tatoos on their arm and such. It's not like she is driving around with her address and telephone number on her car.
August Siggy Challenge Photobomb
You don't feel sorry for her losing a kid just because she has a memory sticker on her car?? You are a special kind of idiot.
When I'm by myself, I park in any open spot. If it's just DD and me, you can bet your asss I'm parking in a pregnancy parking spot. It's too hot here to walk through the whole parking lot carrying a toddler.
