Wont nap in crib for more than 20 mins

Hi!  My 8 month old daughter hates to nap in her crib and I can't do the crying out thing.  She sleeps fine in her swing, but has almost outgrown it.  She will also sleep on me or next to me, but I need to get things done.  Bedtime is perfectly fine and she sleeps all night.  Any suggestions?  I've tried putting the swing cushion in the crib and it didn't work.

She knows she will cry and you will get her out. As long as that keeps happening, she will never want to sleep in her crib. Try looking into other sleep training methods but whatever you do, you have to be 100 consistent or she will just be confused.

This. There are other sleep training methods besides Cry It Out.

  • Ever since I started Ferberizing, my DS only sleeps for 30 minutes (literally on the nose...I can time it.) at nap time. He wakes up crying and twice I've let him soothe himself back to sleep, but he only slept another 5 minutes.  To me, 5 minutes isn't worth 10 minutes of crying, so I go in and get him.  We play or eat and if he gets sleepy later, I put him back down.  So some days, he may take 4-5 cat naps, but it works for us.  I know there are other methods to help him self soothe, but I don't want to confuse him now that we've started Ferber and it's working at night.  I'm sure he'll eventually sleep longer, but I'm not stressing too much right now. He is happy, so I'm happy! He sleeps 10-12 hours at night though.  Good Luck!
  • Maybe do a slow transition, like first reduce the swinging speed, then put her in the swing with no swinging, then put swing piece in crib, etc.

This we started a modified Ferber method and it's worked really well.

  • are you putting her in their asleep?  Try putting her down drowsy but awake.  There might be fussing or crying, but she should sleep better once she she puts her self out instead.

  • I know this might sound silly since she's 8 months old, but the same thing exact happened with my son when he was 2 months old. he'd sleep all through the night, but naps were not happening. We got those swaddle me blankets and swaddled him at night time and we found that it worked perfectly. I don't know if she likes being swaddled or not, but this worked for us and after probably a month or so of being swaddled at nap time he got used to it, and we didn't have to keep him swaddled anymore. worth a try! :)
