I work out 5-6 times a week, doing 30-60 minutes of cardio 3-4 days a week, and about 45 minutes of weight training 2-3 days a week. I know I should cut back on the weights and use lighter weights instead of heavier, and I'm assuming I don't want to do too much cardio as I don't want to lose weight.
I don't want to eliminate cardio, as it's good for your heart. What do you guys do for cardio? How much/how long has been recommended to you? I'm 5'8" and 122 pounds.
Re: Cardio Questions!!
Why do you want to cut back on weights and use lighter weights? What are your goals?
The best cardio for you will also depend on your fitness goals and your schedule. For health, you should be getting a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, 5 days/week. If you are training for a marathon, obviously you'll need to bump it up!
I'm assuming your are early in your pregnancy, yes?
If so, you should probably be able to continue working out as you have been, maybe dropping back in the intensity if you did harder workouts. For example, you may need to slow down speed/sprint workouts. Your workout durations sound fine. I generally use the talk test. If I can hold a conversation without gasping for breath I'm not going too hard. You could also wear a heart rate monitor if you want. I was advised to keep my HR under 140 bpm.
Happy workouts!
You don't need to drop weight, at least not in the first trimester. When you say heavy, what do you mean? Once you hit mid-second trimester, you may need to drop a little. Just don't strain too much, but it has more to do with what is heavy for you and less about a specific weight. I was doing 200lb deadlifts earlier this week, with no issues.
