Ugh, finally. It took forever to get home. For-ever.
So, here's the story. I was going to wait until I was done downloading pics from our vacation, but I'll AW those later since a few people have ANTS IN THEIR PANTS.
SO texted me Monday and asked if we could head out to Indiana this weekend. I'm a planner, so I was like, "WTAF? NO." He said he'd take care of it.
Fast forward to Saturday morning, his birthday, when we're supposed to leave. I happen to open the hotel confirmation I had (stupidly) trusted to be correct (I made this reservation, it took forever, G woke up in the middle of it, suckage all around), and it said August 13. I. was. pissed. at myself, mostly.
Stuff like this instantly sends me into panic mode, so SO took over and found us a nice suite nearby in Michigan City. So, off we went. The plan was to go to the dunes first after lunch, so we did...only to find out that you have to pay $5 to get in and SO didn't have any cash (this would be something I would have "planned" ....). So, he decides he doesn't want to wait in the long line anyways to find out if they took credit cards and we couldn't Google it because Indiana doesn't believe in cell service. We decide to go to the beach.
He finds one in Gary, Indiana and well, what do you know? $5, cash only, to get in. G is freaking out by this point and I'm so mad that I could chuck my shoe at SO's lack of planning. We scrounge up $5, drive back, and hit the beach. I manage to relax because, well, it's the fuggin' beach and it's gorgeous out. We drive back to the hotel, hang for a little, G goes down for a nap like a dream while R and SO head to the hotel pool, and all is well. We head out to Washington Park to hit the beach there when G wakes up...he screams the entire way there and the entire way back.
We get back to the hotel and I'm done with the entire day. I get in the shower with G, who is, again, screaming his little crazy azz off, and hand him to SO to finish getting him ready for bed. I'm done with my shower, so R jumps in and SO, G, and I hang out watching tv.
G is crawling all over the bed and SO looks at me and says, "Ready to do this for the rest of your life?" And I'm like, 'WTF IS THIS MOTHAFUGGA TALKING ABOUT?!!!!" So, I think he's talking about being a mom and I'm like, "Yea, duh, I wouldn't have had him if I wasn't" in the sassiest damn tone in the world. Then, he's like, "Well, good, because I want to know if you'll be my wife."
....
....
UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
WUT?!
"I want to know if you'll marry me. There's not enough room for me to get down on one knee, but will you marry me?"
"YES! OF COURSE!" (but....where's my ring??? My eyes are darting everywhere)
Then, he pulls out this absolutely beautiful, perfect gem of mine, slips it on my finger, and G hugs us both at the same time.
Turns out he had planned to do it on the beach earlier. He didn't have it written it in the sky or filmed or anything that I thought I'd ever want in a proposal when I was 16, but it was perfect. It was completely us; simple, just the three of us, and intimate.
SO, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO....
BLING-BLING BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and for the record, I hate my hands. You'll have to forgive my idiot sister who slammed both my hands in a car door when I was 10, then walked away because she thought I was just playing around, and didn't realize I was serious/went to go get help until literally 5 minutes later.
ETA: OH YEA, I forgot to mention the worst part of the entire beach thing- SO dropped my fuggin' camera IN THE LAKE. So, it's dead.
Re: HERE I IS!
Congrats
I will eat extra beignets to celebrate this occasion.
This too. So sweet. Any date ideas???
I'm thinking September 20, 2014! Our original anniversary is 09/23, but it's not on a weekend for the next few years. We'll be buying a house in the beginning of the year next year and I'll be (hopefully!) starting a new job, so everything will be falling into place!
SCANDAL!
Awwwwwww!!!! What a cool story! Congratulations.
Bummer about the camera.
DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.
Awesome that you can have it at least close to your original anniversary! Such an exciting year for you guys :]
I know I already congratulated you on FB but one more time...CONGRATS! I just love your ring!
Funny story, this is very similar to my proposal story. You don't have to read it but if you're interested...here it is.
We dated for 6 years before moving to Indiana and the last two years of that he was living in Michigan and I was living in Wisconsin so we were doing our best to make the long distance thing work. We finally got our act together and decided to live together (again...long story) and pretty randomly picked Bloomington since neither of us wanted to live in our home states.
The drive to Bloomington from Wisconsin was horrible. Our enormous rental truck broke down before we were even out of town, the cat screamed from its carrier the whole way, we got lost and on and on so the 7 hour trip turned into a 13 hour trip. I was over the whole thing and was so snotty practically the whole drive. He should have just left me on the side of the road.
When we finally made it to our house, at 2AM, we realized that the key was not left for us as planned so we had no way to get in. We didn't know the town, we were exhausted and just wanted to sleep. We randomly found a hotel sort of near by, snuck the cat in and I took a quick shower. I was in a horrible mood. I got out of the shower, and crawled into bed while DH (then "stupid fuggin boyfriend") got in the shower. When he got out of the shower and crawled into bed I was out.
I vaguely remember him waking me up and talking about how we were finally in our new home town and we were finally together and I very faintly remember him asking me to marry him. I woke up a little more and said "huh?" in the most romantic manner. He explained that he had planned to make me a fancy candlelit dinner in our new house and ask me then but obviously nothing had worked as planned. He had planned to ask me on our first night in Bloomington for nearly 7 months because he really wanted our first night back under the same roof to be the beginning the rest of our lives.
So, I also got engaged in a hotel bed after being less than kind to the love of my life all day. I'm lucky he still asked me! We just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and we're happier than ever. I hope you guys continue to have the happiest life together.

I did cry! I didn't call anyone because we were on vacation. I texted my mom a picture first, then my sisters, then my best friend and Blue at the same time. Then, I posted a picture on the FB group because I couldn't PIP here!
We went ring "looking" a few weeks ago and couldn't decide between the one he bought me and another. I'm a pretty indecisive person, but after about 20 try-ons, I fell in love with this one. I had no idea he had gone back to get it or that he had even planned on doing it so soon! We just went about a month or so ago.
SCANDAL!
