Let's talk announcements!

Will you send announcements? If so, are you buying them? DIY? Using a singing telegram?

I always make my own stuff. I made DD's announcements so of course I have to make this LO's announcements too. Mine are super simple though: patterned cardstock (5x7) with a piece of 4x6 white cardstock over top. I will put a picture of DD2 on the white cardstock, plus her name, birth info, and a little embellishment - probably a small purple flower glued to the card.

We will send them out and order them online. I got DS from either snapfish or tiny prints. Well probably go with one of those. Have actually started looking at different ones so I have an idea what I want.

Eh, that's not boring. Its smart - it saves money! We don't have a local newspaper that prints announcements since we live in Pittsburgh.

I guess the idea of an announcement is to truly announce the arrival of baby and most of the people I mail them to already know baby arrived - some have even met baby in person. So its sort of a stupid thing to do when you think about it! The newspaper makes more sense since more people will see it, people that you might not regularly talk to.

I love doing digital scrapbooking/graphic design so I will make my own and then order through a place like vista print probably. I hope to have a design or two sort of done before he arrives, so I can just see what picture I want to use and how it fits the design and order them without doing much work after birth.

Love vistaprint! What do you use to make your design? I thought about attempting to make a photocard myself and then just printing it but I'm not sure which software/program to use. Which is why I was going to just print the info on cardstock and add a pic of LO. Like you, I want a lot of the work done. I get nervous about doing too much before baby arrives but it definitely saves time and makes less work later!

I usually use vistaprint but may use shutterfly with all the coupons you get from there.

We'll try taking our own photos of LO when he/she is born, and uploading the photo to vistaprint or something similar. If our photography skills fail, we'll go to a professional and get them done there and then... once again... get them uploaded to vistaprint and print them out there.

I would do that if we didn't want my MIL to go around telling people she has a grandchild. Before you think I'm a terrible person, she's a drug addict. We also have a lot of family who don't have Facebook. So I'm gonna make some.

I thought about sending out announcements, but it makes me feel uncomfortable because I don't want to come off as bragging or looking for attention. Not judging anyone who does them. I think they are super cute, but everyone I would send them to will see our post on Facebook. I just don't see the point in spending money on it for us.

I didn't do them with DS and I don't do them for this LO, knowing I'll be busy enough with two kids and recovery on my hands. Posting a photo with the details (weight, time, etc) will be announcement enough for me.

I had not planned on sending out an announcement until my neighbor gave me an idea. Her LO spent 72 days I nicu. When she mailed his announcements she include a letter explaining his preemie situation and how they would like to keep visitors to a minimum especially during flu and rsv season. So, I plan to do the same. I'll order the announcements online.

The photographer who is doing our newborn photos had a great deal. She will do the photos, custom announcements and first birthday smash cake pictures!

Yay! I can finally say SS haha. I would normally order online. I think we have decided on a photographer to do a "grow with me" package (5 sessions from newborn to 1 year). It includes 25 birth announcements with the newborn session. She also includes a disc with printing rights, so we may end up ordering more online, according to how many we decide to send out

I voted order online.. I get free shutterfly deals all the time. But I do like being crafty, so if I get motivated I might make some of them, like for immediate family. With DD it was easy, she was born at the end of November, so we combined the announcement and our Christmas card, yes I'm that lazy.

I have like 60 dollars in gift cards from Shutterfly.com that came free with almost every pregnancy related place I have gone. Lol. So I'm using those up.

Sorry for the delay... had my all day birthing class today! I use Photoshop Elements because that is what I use for my scrapbooking, but when I first started I often used powerpoint or publisher instead before I bought photoshop. Worked like a charm. Websites like scrapgirls and twopeasinabucket both have some useful tutorials for various programs.
