Hi, ladies
I haven't been on this board in probably 2 years, but I do have a question that I'm hoping you can help me with. DS, 20 months, suddenly sucks down water, one sippy cup full after another. For example, today: It's noon, and I think he's just finished his fourth full cup of water. And he'll basically sit there and drink it all right away. I'm not particularly worried, but I do think it's odd. (Also frustrating because I swear I'm changing his diaper every 45 minutes.) Anyone else have LO that does this? Also, it's not because we're outside and it's hot. We've spent all morning inside. TIA!
Re: LO sucks down water
hmmm...I would probably keep an eye on it. I wouldn't panic yet, but extreme thirst is a symptom of childhood diabetes. I am not saying that is what it is, but I would keep an eye on it and if it continues I would mention something to the pedi at his 2 year appointment.
It is probably, nothing however, and can be filed under the "quirky phases kids go though"

My DD drinks and pees a lot! To be honest, I didn't really notice, but the daycare teachers kept mentioning. My sister has type 1 diabetes so I knew all about that being a sign. Then one day a teacher mentioned again and I decided to call the doctor. Doctor didn't think I should be concerned, but I insisted on a test. He did a urine test and it came back fine.
I'm sure everything is fine with your LO, but if you're worried, it's a very simple test at the doctor's office.
We did this too - same results. The doctor wasn't worried, but he did a glucose test just to be sure. They go through phases. Mine was like this at 18 months, but now at 21 months, he drinks a "normal" (or less) amount of water. Up until this week he switched from water to milk and was drinking an obscene amount of that. But now he's back to normal on that too.
