HBR/BR ladies: Baby Shower?

Hi ladies!
I'm still on HBR and I will be for a few more weeks. I had to cancel my big baby shower with family and friends this weekend.

Did anyone have a mini shower in the hospital? Mine has a family room that the nurses welcomed me to use. Or did you wait until after the baby was born? Also, if you had a preemie did that affect your decision in terms of not having one or waiting until the baby was settled?

I wouldn't have one at all but this is the first grandchild on both sides and everyone is foaming at the mouth!!

Re: HBR/BR ladies: Baby Shower?

  • We did not have a shower.  We'll have a welcome babies party in Sept/Oct.

I know of people who have had hospital showers, but IMO, it would be too stressful for me.

  • I am in the same boat as you and ended up cancelling my showers. Assuming baby can hang out until 26/27 weeks and has no complications. We will have an extended family open house/meet the baby over the Canadian thanksgiving long weekend, which is in early October. My edd is aug. 31, but I am battling excessively high BP and have been in SBR since 28 weeks.

  • I was on HBR with my first and he ended up coming at 25 weeks. We initially canceled the shower but later rescheduled it. It took me a long time to be comfortable with the idea of all the baby stuff in my house. We had it before he came home because it was cold/flu season and I didn't want to worry about everyone asking to see him or getting mad because we wouldn't let them see him.

  • I was admitted the week of my shower so we canceled. I did not have the energy for a hospital shower. With everything being so unpredictable I just decided to not have one at all. I am not up for having one after the girls are here. Even if I was there's no way I'd have all those people in the house with my preemie girls. When we get to all come home we're only allowing immediate family that have had the tdap and flu vaccines to come visit. Then, it will be flu and RSV season. We won't have many visitors during this time. This was recommended by our doctors for the safety of the girls. If I did have one after they're born, I would have it at another location and leave the babies at home.
