IF: Unexplained/Sperm DNA frag test

Did anyone do a test for this before IVF? Is it necessary?

I'm 28 and DH is 29, current dx is unexplained. Looking at starting IVF next month. Completely out of pocket. I feel like I'm going to Vegas, playing roulette, and putting 15,000 on black. Ugh! Any unexplained success stories to calm me down?

    We are unexplained. I am pretty sure we never had this test done. We just had a standard SA. I don't know if it will calm your nerves but IVF #2 did the trick for us. We have a DS from IVF #2. I did get pregnant from IVF #1 but had a miscarriage. We also have six week old twin daughters from a FET cycle using frozen embryos from our first two IVF cycles. Sending tons of thoughts and prayers that you have success soon!

    We did not do the test, but it was on my list of questions in the event our second IVF was unsuccessful. Instead, that cycle brought us our twins. IVF revealed a suspected cause of our IF: horrible embryo quality. We had great retrieval numbers and nearly 100 percent fert rates, but they usually tanked between days four and five. Our RE thinks we've had dozens of fertilized eggs that just didn't have the potential to result in a viable pregnancy. In our case, IVF turned out to be both a test and a treatment.

    I know unexplained IF is such a miserable diagnosis and IVF seems so intimidating. The boards are so wonderful for support and information. Best of luck to you as you move forward!!

    ETA: I was 29 at the time of my IVF cycles. DH turned 31 between the two.
    TTC in 2009, Dx: Unexplained IF
    Three TI cycles (BFP...miscarriage), five IUI attempts and 2.5 IVF cycles later...BFP!!
    12dp5dt: 765; 15dp5dt: 1979; 17dp5dt: 3379...TWINS!!!!!
    Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!

    We did that test and everything was perfectly normal (just like all our other tests). Having unexplained IF is tough because you just don't have answers.  We did  6 rounds of IVF with our local RE. I had 3 early miscarriages.  Our 7th try at Cornell in NYC gave us our miracle.
