Our final contempt hearing for BD's not paying CS is this afternoon. I have no idea what to expect, other than BD not showing up. My lawyer said if he doesn't show this time then he will be arrested. In these cases do the police actually go after him? Or is it one of those 'if he gets pulled over or his name gets run for any reason, then they will arrest him' kinds of things? I can only imagine the can of worms that will open if he does get picked up. I'll have to hear how I'm the worst person in the world, how could I do this to him, blahblahblah. Oh well, we will see. Wish me luck!

    I'm pretty sure they'll put out a warrant for his arrest but it won't come up unless he gets pulled over. But at this point shouldn't they be garnishing his wages and tax returns and sending them directly to you anyway?

    Just remember - - regardless of what BD says, he has done this to himself.  It is a disgrace to not support your child!

    He is responsible for informing his employer about any CS withholding. And Here they don't automatically take his tax return, I had to file contempt to get the process started.

    You'd think this whole system would be led by his SSN but of course not, that would be too easy

    Most State CS agencies now report arrearages to the Credit Bureaus.  CA does, and now DC will never be able to buy a house or car, will never be able to open a credit card, nada.  His credit is destroyed because of how much he owes.

    I don't understand how these people can just not care about their responsibilities! Don't they realize what kind of effect being in arrears that bad or being arrested can have on every aspect of your life, forever?! I guess if they were responsible adults that had a brain and actually cared they wouldn't be in that situation in the first place.....

    Last week in our local paper they had a long list of dead beat dads that were arrested for owing large amounts of past due child support. they ranged from 1K to over 100K.

    It is about time they crack down on them!
