When I got pregnant at 19 I worked a full time job at a hair salon. My FI at the time worked as well. We lived on our own and paid all our bills. We saved money for our baby and when he cheated on me, lied to his family, left me, and spent our savings on booze is when I sought assistance. Of which I only used for a few months before I got a better paying job.
Yes, assistance is there for those who need it. But, by getting pregnant and thinking that assistance is going to take care of you is wrong. Having a baby is so much more than that. So much. It takes a lot of growing up and a lot of priorities straightened out. It means giving up a lot. When I got pregnant I gave up my friends, my time to party, drinking, smoking, ect. What I needed didn't matter. The baby mattered. Making sure that she had more than just the bare minimum. That she had a savings account for college, new toys, new clothes, ect. I gave up buying myself nice things to do it.
The OP needs to grow up. Worry about a real career. Not that CPS is going to bust down her door because she smoked a little pot. She needs to focus on college so she can get a real career. She needs to give up partying. She needs to become an adult. If she cannot do those things and give that baby what it deserves. It didn't ask to be brought into this world. then the OP should find a different option. Having babies is tough.
Now, I'm done being snarky.

Also, Nana, I am flucking side-eyeing you like crazy. IDKWTF happened that you went from being a really sweet person to being a total biitch to people for low post counts or some other irrelevant thing and getting all holier than flucking thou, but this new personality stinks. No we aren't all puppies and rainbows but we aren't there to be total kunts to noobs either.

I am in my mid/late 30s, so is H. One medical emergency away from not having grocery money, but making too much to qualify for assistance. If I don't have my shiit together better than a 19 yo, you wanna take my kid away too? Because your home situation doesn't smell like roses either, and seeing as to how you are almost young enough to be my kid, seems you don't need to have custody of your kids either by your own flucking standards. Glass houses yo. Lay off.

You're a peach, aren't you. If you have such an issue with govt assistance, please do not claim your kid or your marriage on your taxes, as those are govt benefits paid out to assist those who are married or have kids.

Everything I read was her cursing and a comment about possibly smoking during pregnancy and I completely interpreted the post completely wrong. I truly do apologize. This is the first time I commented on something without reading most of the post and I am regretting it big time. No matter what, I don't want to judge anyone. So I apologize. OP- It sounds like you have a difficult, but not impossible road ahead of you and I wish you the best. I couldn't agree more with the ladies who suggested looking into any type of assistance you qualify for. Your doctor/midwife might be able to help you with some of these resources at your first appointment.

PS- I suspect the grammatically challenged Brit most likely smoked a bag of oregano...

My mother was 19 when she had me. She busted her asss to raise me, but despite her efforts to provide me with everything she wanted for me, she had no choice but to receive public assistance. By your theory, she should have just given me up. I'm sure f'ucking glad elitist asshoIes like you can put things into perspective for me. Now that my mother has passed, I can fully appreciate her efforts and sacrifices to love and raise me the best she could.
