Re: Slow Friday GTKY

  • 1. No. When I was a teenager I had no interest in having a family and didn't want to get married, either.
    2. 20
    3. I recently read Freedom by Jonathan Franzen...I love all his stuff.
    4. Honeymoon in Hawaii.
    5. We haven't had the opportunity to travel in Europe much...so probably Italy, Spain or Germany.
    6. Ferdinand, Octavia, Ephraim, Clover, Asa, Seneca

  • 1. Have you always wanted kids? I have always wanted children. For as long as I can remember I have loved babies and children and flock to them

    2. How old were you when you came out? I was forced out by my parents when they went snooping at 18. It did not go so well withthem and I'm glad to be past that.

    3. Last great book/movie you read/saw? You can do either or both, if you want.  Great books are a collection of novels from Jodi Picoult. She is amazing. Her son just came out to her a couple of years ago and really helped shape the book "Sing you Home."  Awesome movie was The Heat...just saw it and laughed so hard my tummy hurt when I left

    4. Favorite vacation that you've actually been on? The wife and I went to the Dominican Republic at an all-inclusive to celebrate our one year wedding and it was amazing....also LOVE LOVE LOVE cruises!!!  We also did a family vacation to Europe for xmas season two years ago and it was a blast!!!

    5. Ultimate fantasy vacation destination? Would have to be Hawaii or Austrailia or even some remote tropical island

    6. Guilty pleasure baby names you would never really use but secretly love? I'm not sure about that one

  • Hi! I'll join in as today is slow for me too.

    1. Have you always wanted kids? No. I realized I wanted kids after spending a lot of time working in orphanages in Haiti for 2+ years and surviving the earthquake of 2010.
    2. How old were you when you came out? I was 17 when I told my sister and 22 when I told my parents (when I finally had an actual girlfriend).
    3. Last great book/movie you read/saw? You can do either or both, if you want. I'm only into baby books lately - Bringing Up Bebe, very funny about raising kids in France. Now I'm half way through the Dr. Sears book. I'm constantly reading aloud to my wife from it. And I saw the Heat yesterday because ladies on here raved about it. Funny!
    4. Favorite vacation that you've actually been on? Seeing gorillas in Rwanda! And baby gorillas!
    5. Ultimate fantasy vacation destination? Right now, Key West - we are going there for honeymoon/babymoon and it will be a totally gay vacation as we are staying at a gay resort and going on a gay charter boat and watching gay dolphins :-)
    6. Guilty pleasure baby names you would never really use but secretly love? I love love love Italian names but I'm not Italian and it seems silly to name my kid something complicated like: (girl) Alessandra, Mirella, Antonella, Alessia, Simona or (boy) Massimo, Fabrizio, Luciano, Alessandro.

  • 1. Yes, for as long as I can remember.

    2. I didn't realize I was queer until I was 25 (falling in love with a woman was the main catalyst there). I came out at that point.

    3. To be honest, the Heat. It really was spectacularly funny. On the book front, I generally read popular fiction mystery/romance type books (Janet Evanovich, for instance, or lesbian writer Ellen Hart) because they're easy and help me escape. But M and I have been into listening to young adult books on our road trips, and I really enjoyed the first two books of the "Divergent" series by Veronica Roth.

     4. I really liked going to NYC with M last year. But we haven't been on any big vacations together yet (that was only 3 days). I loved some of the trips my family took when I was growing up, especially a miniature family reunion trip in San Diego, and a train trip to Arizona.

    5. Hawaii and Glacier National Park and Costa Rica. Hawaii wasn't on my list previously, but M had an amazing trip and has been talking to me about it for our entire relationship. I've suggested it as a 10 year anniversary trip (if we count from our first date rather than our Love Party, that's only 7.5 years away).

    6. Reagan (can't do it because of the icky President), Cecily (loved this name when I read King Lear as a teenager, but it has always felt too femmey for a child of mine), Cecilia (I would never be able to get the song out of my head-- "Cecilia, I'm down on my knees, I'm begging you please ....).
I also really like some of the trendy names these days including Harper (that's our gross conservative prime minister, so no way!), Parker, Olivia, Oliver, Maya, etc. I want to name our children gender neutral names that are not particularly popular, so those all are no-go's either because of their popularity or their gendered-ness or both.

    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

My fantasy vacation is to Hawaii for an entire month

    6. Guilty pleasure baby names you would never really use but secretly love?

  • It's a skeleton day at work and it is super quiet and slow!

    1. Yes. I used to want 4, but we'll probably only have 2.

    2. Around 22 when I came out to myself. Around 23 for close friends and family. Took a little longer to feel completely comfortable being out to anyone and everyone.

    3. I read a lot, but last truly great book was Team of Rivals, the book that inspired the movie Lincoln. So much more to the book than the movie. Currently reading No Ordinary Time about FDR same author as TOR, Doris Kearnes Goodwin. Saw The Heat yesterday. Fun movie!

    4. Hmmm. I really enjoyed the trip Z and I took to NYC last Thanksgiving.

    5. Cruise from Venice to Greece. And Napa area. Have been before, but would love to spend a longer amount of time there. Next likely vacation is Vancouver in the spring. Bunch of our running friends are going for the marathon, so Z may run the half while baby and I cheer.

    6. I really liked Micah for boy or girl, but Z hates it. Think Aspen is really cute for a girl. She also recently nixed Tristan. I could go on. I like a lot of names that Z doesn't.

  • 1. Have you always wanted kids? Yes, although I thought at some point I'd just be ready to have them and then I'd be a single mom.
    2. How old were you when you came out? 17.
    3. Last great book/movie you read/saw? You can do either or both, if you want. Book: The Sandcastle Girls. Movie: Not sure, about great, but we just went to see World War Z and it kept me jumping.
    4. Favorite vacation that you've actually been on? England and Scotland with C and my nana.
    5. Ultimate fantasy vacation destination? New Zealand and Australia.
    6. Guilty pleasure baby names you would never really use but secretly love? Bliss. I like names that are a bit unusual/hippy, but that one pushes the boundaries.

    1. No, growing up I always said I was never getting married or having kids. It was hard in High School to imagine having a family some day that would look and feel like what I wanted. I was in the closet, and marriage and kids seemed like a prison sentence.

    2. 18

    3. Book: I am reading Sing Me Home by Jodi Picoult right now - phenomenal          As for a movie, I haven't seen anything that I have totally loved in a while. My favorite movie of all time is Dirty Dancing. I have seen it about 12 thousand times, I think.

    4. Our honeymoon - we flew to Rome and took a cruise that went to 6 ports in Italy, Spain and France. We spent a few more days in Rome after the cruise. It was amazing!

    5. Paris

    6. I honestly don't think I have any guilty pleasure names.. My wife and I decided on family names (or variations of family names) a while ago, and I haven't thought much about other options in a long time...

    Me - 30, My wife - 31 , Together for 10 yrs - Married August 2012

    5 medicated IUIs w/ RE (March - July 2013) = BFN

  • I'm finishing up a work day from a Florida hotel room on our baby moon and this looked so fun!

    1. Have you always wanted kids? Yes, but I always thought I would do it on my own and didn't know if i really had the courage to do that

    2. How old were you when you came out? Well.... That was a gradual thing. I definitely knew at 17, was out to friends by 19, told my mom at 25 and finally told my dad at 28. My family is complicated as I'm sure some have picked up from my other posts.

    3. Last great book/movie you read/saw? You can do either or both, if you want.
I'm only reading baby type books right now. Ha! I have also seen the heat and it was really good. But also just rewatched the latest batman the dark knight rises. I forgot how good that was.

    4. Favorite vacation that you've actually been on?
My surprise wedding and honeymoon in Hawaii. A very close second would be a week in Boston and Maine one August. S and I had a blast.

    5. Ultimate fantasy vacation destination?
I now have fantasy vacations for just me and S and fantasy family vacays. Is that bad? lol. The couple vacation would be New Zealand and Australia. And I literally dream about when S and I take our kids to national parks and watch them learn things and see all 50 states with them.

    6. Guilty pleasure baby names you would never really use but secretly love?
I also love Micah! And S hates it. I also like the name Lennon which was a no go. I also love Italian names but the last name is quite German and it just didn't go very well.

It's quiet today! I realize a lot of people might be away or are at least not working, but I thought I'd do a Getting To Know You thread for those who are around and bored... 1. Favorite vacation that you've actually been on? 5. Ultimate fantasy vacation destination? 6. Guilty pleasure baby names you would never really use but secretly love?

    1. I have always been good with kids, but I was in a bad relationship for 6 years and knew I didn't want kids with her. When I married my wife, we were having such a good time alone that we needed to decide over time that we wanted to have a child. We went back and forth for a while, but ultimately decided that expanding our family was something we both wanted, and we are both ready!

    2. I was 21 when I came out. I was at college living a different life while at college and decided it was time to live my truth with my family.

    3. The Heat was hilarious, and a movie I would go an see again in the theater (which says a lot!)

    4. My favorite vacation was when I took a backpacking/hiking trip with my wife. We had just started dating and when we didn't even have a single argument on the 10 day trip, I knew we were meant to be.

    5. Fantasy vacation involves an all inclusive resort where cell phones are banned :)

    6. I love the name Olive for a girl, but DW does like it. I also love the name Charlie for a girl. Boy guilty pleasure names: William is a great name, but the nicknames for it are something I don't like!

TTC our first. Married to, and madly in love with, my beautiful wife. Living with our fur baby and enjoying 19 nieces and nephews.

  • 1. Have you always wanted kids?

I never planned on having children. I wasn't the teenage girl who babysat for extra cash. I, for the most part, didn't care for children, That all changed when I had my first.

    2. How old were you when you came out?

I was 24 and the first person I told was my husband (ex husband & best friend now). We had been best friends since I was 12 years old. He kept my secret until I was ready to share. He supported me when I met A, and now I consider him part of my family.

    3. Last great book/movie you read/saw? You can do either or both, if you want.

The last great movie I watched was The Impossible. If you haven't seen it I recommend it. It's the story a family on vacation in Thailand when the 2004 Tsunami hit. I cried 75% of the time and so did A, and she never cries.

    4. Favorite vacation that you've actually been on?

Best vacation ever was last August when we took our 2 girls to Myrtle Beach. It wasn't the most exotic place I've ever been, but I say its the best because it was our girls' first experience seeing the ocean. Seeing their little faces light up when we walked out on the beach for the first time was Priceless. It was 10 days of fun in the sun!

    5. Ultimate fantasy vacation destination?

Our fantasy vacation is coming true in Feb 2014. A doesn't know it yet but I booked us a cruise to Turks & Caicos. We have been talking about how beautiful it is since we first became a couple. It is her Christmas present, I think she'll be pretty surprised!

    6. Guilty pleasure baby names you would never really use but secretly love?

I am going to have to agree with MK on this one. I LOVE Italian names. I always wanted to name a little girl Gianna (Gia for short) or Antonia. I never did for multiple reasons, but I still love them!
