1st Trimester

Hi! I'm Katie.

I am currently pregnant with my first.

I'm 19. Still a baby myself.

Yes, I'm completely terrified. But, more so thrilled. (:

Although, I'm broke as ever , busting my butt at a minimum wage job. But there's government help for a reason. Not something I'll be ashamed of.

I just have a  very important question.

If I fail for marijuana when I go to my doctor in a few days to verify my pregnancy & find out exactly where I'm at, will I lose my baby or deal with cps, or will they give me a month or so to get clean? I'm very worried. I've always lived a carefree life, do what I want now, face consequences later. Obviously, that has to change. I know what I have to do, & planning on taking all the steps I must take to ensure my baby is just an absolutely beautiful, healthy baby.

Anyways, before I babble on, I hope someone can help. I would just be mortified if I lose my baby. :'(

If anything, leave me be. Don't need your crap.

  • & it's not like I plan on continuing smoking marijuana. I'm not a dumb girl. I know that's not okay for my baby. Although, it would hurt it less than cigarette smoke, it's illegal. But as long as my baby come out clean of drugs, I should be fine, right.?

Wow, harsh. You didn't ask for help. You asked if you would lose your baby because you are doing something illegal, bad for you, and bad for your unborn child. I am assuming if you fail a drug test while you are pregnant that CPS will be called.

& "I'm calling MUD", sounds like a threat to me.

  • Made up drama? I'm not a little kid. I am pregnant, for sure. Without doubt.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but you still have no right to judge my very real,  "made up drama".

Never said YOU could relate, but there are about 77646362829294757 moms in this world who could possibly help me out. Now, leave me alone because I have real life issues going on. Shows me this board can't deal with real , everyday issues.

I asked for help. Not bullshit.

  • I was 19 when I got pregnant with my daughter. It's not something you go into thinking "hey I'll just get on assistance!!". It doesn't sound like you'll be able to give your baby the type of life it deserves. I would look into other options before you start your child into a world of vicious cycles.

When you're on your own, you might not really have an option.

The ONLY option is keeping my baby & giving it the best life I can, which is not for anyone to decide how it's going to be. I know my baby will always have a roof & food. Me & my baby will be fine.

If you're serious about quitting, just wait a couple weeks before you go to a doctor [unless you're having any complications, obviously]. If you're not serious about quitting, then by all means, go to your appt and fail the test. Also, don't take anything anyone says on the Internet seriously.

Very serious about quitting. I want nothing more than to keep my baby.

Really? That really explains how they found out all the time babies have drugs in their system before they are even born.

All I really want anyone to tell me is whether or not my doctor will give me time to get clean.

  • What's with all this negativity and judgement on here?! Geez...

Anyways I've smoked weed on and off since I was in high school i am 25 now...when I suspected that I was pregnant I stopped immediately which sounds like you're doing and planning to do. I don't plan on smoking at all during my pregnancy and I also plan on stopping completely I don't want to raise my baby in a house hold like that. Not saying you are either anyhow I admitted to my drs office yes that I have smoked marijuana before and I don't now and don't plan to either. This is the same as women who have drank and didn't know they were pregnant but stop immediately. We can't control what we don't know as long as we control what we can. I have the best intentions for my baby and his or her health and I am sure you have the same. So don't worry about the legal stuff you are doing the right thing now so you're safe dont be afraid

  • Hi Katie,

Your doctor shouldn't have to give you time to get clean... you should be doing it right now. Hopefully you are. You seem very determined to have a healthy, happy baby with a good mom and that's great! As long as you realize you need to stop then you're on the right path. Just remember that you can do whatever you want to yourself but you only have one chance to create a healthy baby. Try not to be too discouraged about things you hear from other people. You're trying to get help so it's a good start. The problem would be if you just didn't care and that clearly is not the case. I haven't been to my first doctor's appointment yet, it's in about a week but I don't think they will give you a drug test unless they have a good reason to suspect you need one so do anything you have to do to stop smoking, while it may not be as bad as cigarettes, it certainly isn't good for your baby. Good luck with everything and

everyone please try to remember she's here for help, not severe criticism.

They don't drug test unless they have a reason to do so. And they have to have consent from the mother, because it is at the cost of the mother. A lot of OB's really won't unless it's been mandated but Child Protective services. And most of the time, if it's just for marijuana, they will just advice to not continue to do so. If it is something harder, they are legally bound to report to CPS. I was 18 and an avid pot smoker and cigarette smoker when I found out I was pregnant

Went to my first OB visit, at 20 weeks, and they do the mental and health screening. I put down that I smoked 2 joints a day prior to finding out I was pregnant, as well as 7 cigarettes a day on average. My OB told me as long as I quit, I was fine. No drug test. Second DD, no drug test either, even with prior drug use.

They are not going to take your child away, and 80% positive unless you look like you are doing bath salts, they aren't going to drug test you. And if they ask you to take one, opt out and tell them it's because you can't afford the additional cost.

& also, thank you everyone who's helped. I don't plan on smoking weed & don't plan on having my child around that, ever.

& about the government help, how am I thinking of myself, when it never crossed my mind before I was pregnant?

I'm obviously thinking about my child & what I can do to get much needed help, so I can give my baby the life it deserves. I plan on attending college, getting a degree in nursing, & starting life. Making enough for my family & not needing much more. Now, tell me again that I'm think only of myself.

I didn't see any exclamation points in her comments about assistance. She said that's what they are there for. And that's exactly right. I'm also confused how you can gather that she can't give the baby the life it deserves based on her doing research and finding out what she needs to do in order to raise her child.

The overreactions are strong in this post. On both sides.

Honestly, I was just poking fun. In reality it sounds like the OP needs to just grow the eff up. The fact that she blatantly says that assistance is there for her because she couldn't figure out birth control just pisses me off. Yes, assistance is there for families who are poor. But to get pregnant and not even care that you have no real way to support it just sucks.

When I got pregnant at 19 I worked a full time job at a hair salon. My FI at the time worked as well. We lived on our own and paid all our bills. We saved money for our baby and when he cheated on me, lied to his family, left me, and spent our savings on booze is when I sought assistance. Of which I only used for a few months before I got a better paying job.

Yes, assistance is there for those who need it. But, by getting pregnant and thinking that assistance is going to take care of you is wrong. Having a baby is so much more than that. So much. It takes a lot of growing up and a lot of priorities straightened out. It means giving up a lot. When I got pregnant I gave up my friends, my time to party, drinking, smoking, ect. What I needed didn't matter. The baby mattered. Making sure that she had more than just the bare minimum. That she had a savings account for college, new toys, new clothes, ect. I gave up buying myself nice things to do it.

The OP needs to grow up. Worry about a real career. Not that CPS is going to bust down her door because she smoked a little pot. She needs to focus on college so she can get a real career. She needs to give up partying. She needs to become an adult. If she cannot do those things and give that baby what it deserves. It didn't ask to be brought into this world. then the OP should find a different option. Having babies is tough.

    Now, I'm done being snarky.

  • JFC, Nana. You're one step away from telling her that her situation screams "I don't know how to use birth control".  I can't believe the shlt you are spewing.

OP, I had a VERY unplanned (though wanted) pregnancy and I had marijuana in my system at the time. Not sure how regional it is, but I was made to sign a form saying that my Dr could/would drug test me during pregnancy. After seeing that, I fessed up and they were very understanding and supportive.  They may use that as a scare tactic to women on government healthcare, I'm not sure.

    Best of luck to you.

For one. I didn't plan a baby. Accidents happen. I work my *** off. Don't make assumptions on my life, when you don't know the half. & if you would read, rather than judge you would see that I don't party & don't plan on smoking weed. I only need the help until I get my nursing degree. I do believe most nurses would consider their jobs a career.

The fact that she blatantly says that assistance is there for her because she couldn't figure out birth control just pisses me off.

    I called it.

Also, assistance is for people in need, which she clearly is. She said she works a minimum wage job. She never said she had no plans for a career. She's just trying to keep her baby.

I always knew I disliked you.
