Cyst Aspiration prior to IUI cycle

I went in for my day 3 ultrasound/bloodwork and the dr noticed that the cyst I've had the 2 previous times has gotten larger he suggested getting it aspirated and then waiting till next cycle to start our IUI. Has anyone had this procedure done? are you still in a twilight sleep sedation and can your husband be present with you during it or no? Also I was wondering do they intubate you for it or not? I've never been put even under with light sedation and I was wondering everyones experience with this. Thank you!

TTC since 2012

Dx : DOR

IUI #1 (Follistim switched over to Menopur injections) - BFN

Attempted IUI #2 (Menopur injections only cycle) better response on the Menopur then the Follistim combination treatment cycle however my cycle was still canceled due to my eggs not maturing and follicles not growing enough on a high dose of Menopur (Re said I could try a cycle of comid + ovidrel  for an IUI) for my second IUI( praying this works for us)

Clomid + Ovidrel protocol worked still a BFN as a result

Attempted cycle  Clomid  + Ovidrel protocol for IUI # 3 (Unable to do this cycle due to a cyst)

IUI # 3 Clomid+ Ovidrel protocol - BFP    Beta #1 752  Beta #2  1536    Beta #3 3797

Re: Cyst Aspiration prior to IUI cycle

  • I had a cyst aspiration before our first IVF cycle. It sounds WAY worse than it is. They just stick a needle into the cyst and drain it. You don't need any sedation or anything. Barely hurts at all.

  • And from our experience I definitely encourage you to wait a cycle. I think we would have had more eggs if we'd waited.
