Ina May Gaskin is a big name in natural birth. Gloria Lemay is another good one. There is a lot out there... I highly recommend doing Hypnobabies. I have had two good natural births using Hypnobabies!
I second Ina May. Her books are amazing. I had a hospital birth (birth centers/home births are not am option in
my area). I found Henci Goers book, the thinking woman's guide to a
better birth, really helpful. It focuses on hospital interventions and
specifically talks about each one, when it is needed and why. I found
it really helpful since I delivered with an OB. As for birth classes think about what you would like your ideal birth to be and then find a class that closely matches that. I did the Bradley method and loved it. I wanted my H to be a big part of birth and my support. The Bradley classes are geared towards partner support and trained him how to be an amazing labor coach. I think you were the one who posted about placenta encapuslation this week (I lurk on TTC as we are trying for #2). I did it and found it really helpful. I suffered from depression in the past and was worried about PPD. My doula did the TCM form and the pills look just like any other vitamin pill you would take. GL!
"Pushed" by Jennifer Block, and "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" by Henci Goer. Both go into the specifics of a typical hospital-based birth in the US, in terms of interventions, etc.
