Speaking of names, anyone doing a Jr?

Mobile: Speaking of names, anyone doing a Jr?

DH and DS are both Matthew.  Different middle names so not a 'Jr' per say, but close.  Fortunately I like the name Matthew, but I didn't really want a husband and son with the same name.  It always caused confusion when my friends dads and brothers had the same name, or they ended up being called 'Big Matt' and 'Little Matt.'  But my husband is hardly ever adamant about anything EVER and this was really important to him, so we went with it.  No real regrets, we call DH Matt and DS1 Matthew, so it's really not confusing to us or close family, but it does occasionally cause confusion.

How do you deal with a Jr if you already have one?

  • We won't be doing it. My grandfather's name was Jim, as is my dad's, brother's, and nephews. lol They have different middle names so are jr, but it's confusing!!

  • DH wants a Scott Jr. I, however, do not, so I'm not sure what we're going to do yet. I feel bad vetoing his name choice, but I really don't like the name for baby. We'll see. It's a never ending battle with us. So I'm hoping baby is a girl. Haha.

  • Speaking of Jrs, what is the difference between a Jr and a second? Like James the 2nd or whatever.

I think it is Sr and Jr until there is a III. I could very well be wrong though.
  • My husband is a Jr., but we're not doing a 3rd. We're using his middle name as a first name, my maiden name as middle and he will go by an abbreviated version of his middle name.
  • We have a sixth!  Yikes!   All Georges.... I have to admit, I wasn't thrilled while I was pregnant (I'd been secretly hoping for all girls!), but the name has really grown on me.  He's five now and I truly love it, and we have yet to meet another five year old George.

In my husband's family, every other George has a nickname.  My husband's grandfather is King; My FIL is George; my husband is Chip; my son is George.  So for the most part, its not confusing at all. I've never called my husband George, and honestly don't even think of him as one -- though of course, he is.  I just call my FIL Papa when we're all together and I need to distinguish between the two.

  • We've had all girls so far so no problem. I don't want a junior. My husband doesn't care. I do not think the world needs a third AG.
I DO think my MIL was slightly miffed by this. Of course I didn't use those exact words! Lol

IIIIIIIIIFFFF this is a boy, he'll have husband's name as a middle name. That is how we will choose to honor the first male in the whole family born with the last name, since my husband.
