We were told to bleach vegetables before eating them here in the Philippines. We don't though, we use a vinegar wash and/or scrub brush and most people I talk to do nothing special to prep their vegetables/fruits. I'm not sure if for DD though I should be more careful.
How do you prepare foods for LO?
Re: Homemade purees abroad
We don't have a LO yet. But I am expecting in Europe, where infection with toxoplasmosis is significantly higher than back home. (And considered a much more serious issue than back home.)
Our favorite restaurant always assures us that they've washed the veggies in vinegar so they are safe for me to eat while expecting. Sounds like you're on the right tract!
