I haven't been on this board in ages....and I am so glad it is still here. I have a 6yrs old non-verbal/high functioning autistic son. This year is becoming challenging as now regional center is wanting to reduce my son's aba services - their excuse is because he has been in receiving services for a long time, that they feel I am somewhat adequate in a decrease. My son has made very little improvement behavioral-wise from the old ones, but new ones are in and they are alot more streneous than the others.
I plan to meet with 3 people from Regional Centers and 3 people from his ABA vendor....however, I feel like this meeting will be more of them ganging up on me to convince me to accept their reduction.
Does anyone have any tips or advices in trying to keep ABA services for my son. We currently get 8hrs of 1:1, 2hrs of supervision and 2hrs of parent consult weekly.
TIA
Re: Need Tips When They Want to Reduce Services
Do you have an advocate (or someone who can act as an advocate) to come with you? If not an actual attorney, at least find someone who doesn't have a financial stake in the reduction of services.
I'm cynical about these things, but I don't think anybody at the state admin level is ever thinking about anything but $ and how to keep their own jobs.
ABA is expensive, insurance companies don't want to pay for it, the laws just changed, the DSMV just changed. . . it just seems like a legal nightmare.
