I stole this from the old check in....

This group is for those of us dealing with male factor issues. We welcome everyone but mostly we are dealing with low count, motility, morphology or all three. Male infertility is a mysterious world filled with questions no one, including REs, urologists, acupuncturists or anyone else seem to have the answers to. Any treatment suggested is a coin toss for success and a 3 month wait for a fresh batch of swimmers. Most of us are told the only answer is IUI or IVF w/ICSI. The purpose of this group is to support each other through shared experiences and to share any info we can because the more informed we are the better. We have a check in every Sunday. Welcome and GL and PPVs to all!

Update: Still waiting on my job to find out if we're going for it next cycle. I'm getting supremely frustrated with the whole thing! I've got about 3 weeks to go before CD1, so I better freaking know something before then!!!!! DH stopped the Clomid for a couple of weeks back in April, so I'm paranoid that my ovulation time will fall into the time where his sperm will be affected by the lack of testosterone during that time. (Yes, I'm a bit of a freak.)

QOTW: Keep the communication open. As much as I'm a control freak, DH is having a really hard time with our diagnosis. MFI is such a blow to men, because they really do tie their self-worth into their junk. Heck, they call it their "Manhood" for crying out loud! Let him lead the conversation when talking about treatment options. Listen before pushing anything, since it's their bodies too. Yes, the treatments for female infertility are invasive and embarrassing, (and yes, we're going to have to go through all that sh!+ anyways) but men are conditioned to believe that if there is an issue with their body, then it's shameful. (How many proctologist jokes have you heard lately?) If you support each other through this, then you're still keeping your marriage/partnership as your priority, rather than the treatments.

We are stimming now for IVF 1!! 1st suppression check will be Thursday.

Qotd: I always tried to explain to my hubby that it was "our" problem not his. I know they deal with a lot of failure issues when they feel they cannot give us what they think we want the most I life. I have told my hubby lots of times that I would rather have him as my partner through this struggle than any other man who could easily conceive. He told me that was nice to hear. I let him set the boundaries as how far we would go to find the problem. He was against seeing the urologist bc two REs told us there was no point in a biopsy or anything so I respected that. We had to walk away at one point bc we were out of options. It's a team approach and it takes both of us to pull through this! Good luck to all the new MFI ladies, if you ever have any questions I will try my best to help!

Beta was today and I'm waiting until after work for the results! The ridiculous threads that firesiren gave me as a distraction were super helpful and hilarious!

MFI is a difficult diagnosis because, as in our case, there often isn't a known reason for it. I recommend giving DH space to process it and talk about it if he wants. My DH doesn't really say anything about it and it seems he's as ok with it as he can be.
He does hate that I've had to go through IVF though and even though he doesn't say this, I worry he feels it is because of his mfi.
But like PP said, it is OUR issue, not his and I could never blame him for any of this.
Also, let DH decide what treatment he wants to pursue. My DH tried Clomid but hated taking it and it wasn't really helping at all. So I was okay with his stopping it.

Hi everyone!

I'm waiting for AF to show up so I can repeat CD3 bloodwork for the new RE. I'm so so excited about this! I feel so young again lol

QOTD: I second everything that pp's said and I would like to stress the importance of keeping the flame alive. Go for romantic dates, dinner&movie, etc. Buy little presents for each other (I gave my DH a couple of books about infertility for men and he loved them). Talk to each other and give the other time to adapt and deal with these problems. I was very frustrated in the beginning because I felt that DH was not in the same place I was, but we started talking to each other and found out we're much closer to each other than we both thought.

Yesterday was day one bcp. So we are jumping back into ivf number 2 right away. I think it's helped deal w the bfn blow but I'm also starting to question how many ivfs we can realistically try and if they never work...what then? My dr has high hopes for this second round so that gives me some hope.

Hmmm DH and I have always faced our infertility as infertility not necessarily specifically MFI. We've just done what we needed to do. I don't think DH has felt less like a man or anything. We just take it one step at a time. Granted we are both more aware of life style choices now.

tpt- I worry about stuff like that too. I'm sure that it will work out though. The clomid shouldn't go out of his system that fast!

I have good news- I had my HSG today. ALL CLEAR!!!!!!! I'm so happy. This was my first diagnostic. I have my CD3 testing in a few weeks

My advice would be to be an advocate for yourself. Ask doctors all of your questions. Be patient. Because things will never happen on your time frame!

On BCP for IVF in August. I have my official consult and chart review tomorrow. Hopefully I will get my calendar then. We still have some labs pending from a couple weeks ago...hope to get those too.

QOTW: DH has pretty much convinced himself that his 1% morph isn't a problem...so I don't ever bring it up.

Hello - We are dealing with azoospermia. DH had an ultrasound which came back normal. And now he has just been tested for retrograde ejaculation...should get the results back for that in 1 week. It's looking like our hopes of doing IVF/ICSI in August isn't going to happen.

I am one of the newbies, but do have some thoughts to share on how we have been handling all of this. My DH does blame himself and I try my best to convince him that it is not his fault, that there's nothing he could have done to change this. I really do see this as "our" issue to deal with and have been trying to support him by going with to all of his testing. I think for us it has also helped for me to be the one in charge of scheduling all of the appointments and dealing with all of the bills coming in. He has already been so stressed out with this diagnosis that I think him having to do the scheduling and bills would just be too much. This is just what has worked for us.

In CD 6 on clomid waiting for Iui and praying we have swimmers DH was diagnosed with Azoo in Jan, but has come back some with the help of clomid.

It's really hard for the man to deal with this. It still breaks my heart when I think about driving with him when he asked me if I would ever leave him if it didn't come back. DH isn't a huge talker but did open up alot over this. My best advice to is to reassure him that you aren't going anywhere, your in this together and love the crap out of him!

Sorry that I am way late on posting on this checking.

Thanks so much for doing this check-in. It helps me a lot, since I am just hanging out here, waiting for appointment and such.

Good news! My DH appointment got moved up and he had it right before we left to go on vacation. Yay! He really, really liked the andrologist, which is a good thing and really important for DH. Apparently, the andrologist was much more optimist than our RE. Maybe our RE is just giving us conservative numbers to avoid disappointment? DH has mild varicocele, but the andrologist said that that is not causing the problem because there is not a backwards flow (?). I totally didn't understand this (I wasn't at the appt. but DH reported this back to me), and I am trying not to Google every little thing. If the Dr. says that the varicocele is not a problem, then I believe him. I've heard that surgery for it often doesn't work anyway. Our next appt. is in August. We will know more than and start moving forward.

Since I am a newbie, I just wanted to say thanks to all you ladies who have been providing support and answering my questions. I think just the encouragment and knowledge that I am not alone is the most valuable right now.
