How many kids do you want?

DH and I were talking last night about it. We've always said 3 (and are still planning for it). He wants to have the third as soon as this one is born basically! He's a little crazy but I can dig it. I'm thinking more when this baby is about a year and DS is 5. How many do you want and when do you want to have them?

Re: How many kids do you want?

  • We wanted two before we had DD, then we had here and decided one was good, then we decided to try for another one, couldn't have one, went through fertility treatments, decided since they were so far apart we should have two more, got pregnant with this one, having a rough pregnancy and decided that this one is the last.

    So, we want 2.

  • Well we are having our third now and this will be our final one. I'm a 3 under 3 and while its not easy it does have its advantages, mainly that the baby stages of up all night, tons of diapers and bottles/nursing will all be done relatively soon. Also I will say that my older daughter also had a very easy transition from being an only to a big sister. In almost 9 months since we brought our 2nd DD home she hasn't shown any jealousy. I think it's because she doesn't really have memories of being the sole child. People will argue that you don't get quality time with each child when they are so close together but I beg to differ. Each and everyday both my girls get alone time with my husband and I. Sure it's hard but I wouldn't have split them up farther now if I could do it over again.

  • I'm pregnant with our fourth. We never had a set number we wanted but I'm done after this one. Each pregnancy has been harder and harder on me. We have 12 year old, 9 year old, 5 year old and baby on the way. ;
  • We are probably one and done. After dealing with our loss, and the stress of TTC again, and my age... I doubt we will want to go through this again. I will be 33 and DH 36 when nugget is born. We wouldn't even consider TTC again for a couple years, so I just don't know if it is in the cards for us. I will be very happy with one healthy happy little baby!

3 for us, I don't like odd numbers but I can't imagine 4. I had 2 under 2 and I'm glad to have this one more spaced out

I want 3, my husband wants 2. Pretty sure as soon as he lays eyes on this one, he'll be on board with my plan!

  • This is #3 and I am pretty sure it is our last. I had always wanted 3, and DH only wanted 2, so I think this is it. When this baby is born DS will be 4 years and 9 months, and DD 2 years and 9 months.

  • We would love three but will be happy with one healthy baby if that is what happens.

  • This is our first so it may change, but we would like 3 as of now.

  • DH and I always talked about having 2 but as of now I think we're going to be a one and done family. My feelings MIGHT change down the road but at this point I don't think I want to go through another pregnancy. We're very happy with our one miracle.

  • This will make #2. Depending on how this pregnancy goes, we might try for #3. If we do try for #3, it also depends on how quickly it happens too. I'll have just turned 33 when this one is born. Ideally, I'd like it to happen before turning 35. However, if I go eclamptic again, I'll be getting my tubes tied.

  • This is our second and last. Ideally they would have been closer in age, DD will be almost five when her brother comes. But I dealt with infertility and two losses. I'm just thrilled I get a second.

  • This will be our second and last. I always wanted 3 but being pregnant is not for me. I can't imagine going through this a third time. I will be very happy with two kiddos!

  • We have always discussed only having two. I've realized that I REALLY have no desire to go through another pregnancy after this one, so that hasn't changed. I really like the idea of knowing I am "done" come December. I always say -- one kid for each hand (or parent) is totally doable for us.

Originally it was 4, we have 2 and I'm pg with number 3.....I'm so tired with chasing after my 2.  This one is the last one.  So were having 3
  • We're thinking 5 or 6. DH comes from a huge family (he's one of 8, his parents are each one of 5, all of his cousins come from families of 5 or more kids). I only grew up with one sister who is three years older than I am and we lived in a different state from the rest of our cousins who were all way older than us anyway. I love the big family aspect. It's a blast hanging out with his family so we both really want that for ourselves. Whatever God is willing to give us :) As for spacing, I'm not totally sure. I've always said 2 years between each one, but I've learned that when I make plans, something else happens instead. We'll see how this first one goes and figure out when we're ready to try for #2.
  • We always said we weren't having any. After about 8 years I said maybe 1, and DH said s/he should have a sibling, so 2. I chose 0 over 2, and then about a year ago we had a surprise pregnancy and medical mc and we settled on 1, with a caveat that if the first was a boy we would consider 2.

  • We want a big family but have not decided on a number yet. We will just see what happens. We both know we want more than 1 or 2 kids.

  • I have always had a "lets see how it goes" attitude. Lol. TOPS 3. If after this number 2 baby we decided on trying for 3 it will be sooner rather than later.

My SIL just had her 4th and it seems like they are always losing one of them. Hahaha I can't imagine either!

  • We don't really plan on using anything to prevent, but I have 90 day cycles and other issues, so who knows. We would like yo have at least two more [this is our first] but we'll see what we get.
  • One and done for me. I always wanted two of my own, but H has two already from a previous marriage. He doesn't want four kids, so one and done. Three kids total with my stepson and stepdaughter and this baby.

We originally wanted 3, but I'll be 37 with 2u2 and I'd like to wait a while for a 3rd, but would rather not be having babies past 40. So, 2 is probably it for us.

  • I've always wanted 3. My DH is ok with as many as I can handle. He came from a big family and I love seeing the whole family together. Sometime I wonder if 4 would be good.
  • I had always said 3.  DH said 2.  I am thinking this is our last though.  This pregnancy is totally different than my super easy one with DS and I don't think I could do it again with 2 kids running around.  Who knows though.  When DS got bigger, I missed the baby stage.  So there may be one more but I highly doubt it.  I would be perfectly fine with 2.

  • I think after this one we are done. This makes 2 so I believe regardless if boy or girl we will be done. I always said 3, but now not so sure. When we had DD we said we were doneeven sold all my baby stuff last summer. DD will be 4 soon and I really wanted her to have a sibling. I guess we will see about 3 later.
  • I've always said I want 4, but my brother has 4 and everytime they all come over lately, they are crazy. When they leave DH just looks at me and says we're not having 4. I'm thinking we'll probably end up with 3 and I have no idea on spacing. We'll see how this first one goes and then decide!

  • I've always said at least a boy and a girl and I would try as many times as it took for this but this is my first and it's been rough so I have reconsidered that one. I know we at least want two but not sure how close together
  • liz429liz429 member
We're going to try for 2, unless by some chance we have 2 girls then i think we will be game for a 3rd attemptone of our good friends is the hs football coach and has requested a player lol We're going to start trying Oct/Nov 2015. Planning a return trip to South africa then and hoping we can conceive there again

  • When we first started talking kids, in our dating years, I said 4 and DH said 3. He was one of 4 and I was one of 3...ironic. I had two brothers so as we got older I ended up being on my own a lot because thy got closer and more into "boy" stuff while I was into "girl" stuff. To this day they are best friends. Soooo I'd like an even amount. DH and I actually agree that 2 might work for us, given that we're both on teacher salaries, but we're also in the camp of "God will givens what he gives us!" And it DH gets his Masters in athletic administration, as discussed, money wouldn't be as much of an issue...

  • This is number 2 for us. I want 3 and always have. DH keeps going back and forth.

Since they're both boys I think I'll try to talk DH into trying for a girl when DS 2 is a year.

  • This is our fourth girl and last! Ours are spread out pretty well so hopefully our house won't be too crazy!
  • This is our 4th and last. Tubes will be tied during c/s.
Always wanted 4, but we also had 4 losses. I was starting to make peace with 3 when we got pregnant. The girls will be 10 almost 11, 9 and 5 when baby arrives. We'll know in 10 days whether number 4 is another girl or a boy!

    Girl #1 (2/1/03); Girl #2 (8/4/08); MC (2/28/07); MC (10/16/07); Girl #3 (7/21/08); MC (12/8/10); MC (9/5/12); Baby EDD (12/5/13).
  • We always said 0-3, hoping for at least 1 and giving room for twins / surprises. This is two. I'll be 38 by the time she's born and twins run in my family so we won't try again. I am already dreading the baby phase so I don't expect to be one of those people who longs wistfully for another baby.
  • It depends. If we have a boy and a girl for our first 2, we'll probably be done. But if we have 2 of the same, we'll probably have a third. In an ideal world I'd like them to be 2-3 years apart.

We are definitely stopping with this baby which will be 2 kids. After our DD we thought that maybe 1 was enough but decided early this year that 1 more would feel complete.
