Changing Table

I was curious what peoples views on a changing table are. Would I need a changing table? I am curious if they are a needed item or not really as the floor or bed is just about the same. Thanks!

I decided not to go with a changing table since it can pretty much only be used for that one purpose. I bought a low dresser and I am going to put a changing pad on the top. But to be honest, im sure that I will be using the floor more than anything!

Avoid the bed unless you want to do extra laundry! Also you want something waist high because you won't want to be bent over after birth. I'm just putting a changing pad on the dresser. I like the changing table idea if you need the storage or are doing cloth diapers or something.

I have a changing table that looks a lot like an open side and back bookshelf. My dad made it for my sister and I as babies and passed it to me. Used on DS and will use it on DD. I enjoyed the convenience of the changing table and having places for the changing necessities.

We bought the graco Sarah crib and changing table from Walmart.com for my son. We plan on using it for our LO when she arrives. It was 150 for both as a set so it was cheap and good quality. Otherwise, I would have used a dresser. However, if you do use a dresser, make sure to screw in the changing pad into the dresser or wall because eventually the baby WILL squirm on the table. You don't want the changing pad sliding around as you're trying to clean liquidity poo :]

A couple years ago I bought a dresser from a consignment store that also happened to be a changing table. I wasn't planning on using it for that purpose but once a tv was on it, you couldn't tell it was a changing table. It's such a nice piece of furniture that we have decided to use it in the babies room. If I didn't already have this, I would skip the changing table. A waist high dresser works just as good!

We are using a dresser with changing pad...from my experience as a nanny a changing table with open shelves is a pain in the neck! The last person i worked for had a changing table with open shelves and she kept her diapers, wipes, lotion, ointment, etc handy...but eventually her child could reach those things and got into the butt paste and all that fun stuff. We ended up having to put everything in the closet, out of the way, so he couldnt get into anything. PITA!

so at least get one with drawers!

I got one from Walmart that has one shelf and 2 drawers, it can be used for years to come in the childs room. If it were not for this design, I would not have purchased one.

I wasn't going to buy one. But my boss is giving me a crib and the crib has one attached to it. I was going to use a changing pad or something before I found that out.

We've never bought/acquired one. With DD1 we did have the changing table attachment on the pack and play set up for a while but even then used it rarely. We spend most of our awake time in the living room so change diapers on the floor, I keep a package of diapers and wipes there. I've co-slept with my last 2 so kept some diapers/ by the bed and was always sleeping on a mat to catch drool/milk anyway.

It's an individual decision- it's not that I can't afford one, just don't have a need for one.

We are on our third child and have used the same Ikea dresser for the two previous kid. We need to figure something out for the third because the girls use the dresser for all their clothes and the changing area is about to be dismantled once the youngest is potty trained. I saw some solutions on Pinterest, you may want to check out some there.

I am going with a vintage dresser I've been bidding on for a month and got! Yay! and a changing pad on top. LO's room isn't big enough for both and we'll be able to use the dresser for years. I will refuse to give it up I'm sure!

We still use the changing mat on the waist high dresser in DD's room. She's 19 months. I never liked bending over to change her on the ground.

If you choose dresser, heres some awesome advice i was told... make sure all of your dresser drawers can be opened with ONE HAND. I had to add pulls in the middle of my hand me down dresser drawers, but it's been a real lifesaver. One hand can stay on baby while you grab clothes from the drawers.

We have use one for both boys and will for this LO as well. Ours has 2 Shelved under that we used for toys and books. It was nice to have them waist high and contained especially when they got really squirmy

We use a low dresser and put a changing pad on top of it... I thought I would use the floor/bed/couch more but actually ended up using the changing pad on the dresser the most with our first baby so with this one we will be doing the same!!!

It was (and still is) a must-have for us. I like that it felt more secure than having a change pad on a dresser. The height is perfect and if things got messy we just took the change pad cover off and changed DD. On the bed or floor it could have got ugly, lol.
