I have been following 5 month old DDs lead so far but in worried we are doing too much food. She seems to want to eat cereal 3x per day now. I've been doing 1/4 cup rice cereal for breakfast, 1/4 cup for lunch, and 1/4 cup cereal with a 2 tbsp of veggies for dinner. She doesn't always finish every bit, especially at dinner. I breastfeed one side, offer the cereal/veggie, then offer the other side. She still takes both sides breastfeeding! She breast feeds 23 other times during the day as well. I jut can't believe how much she's eating. Should I cut back on the cereal or keep it up? I don't want her to take in less milk than she needs by eating too much solids....
Re: How much food?
I was always told that food before one is just for fun. I would always BF then about an hour later offered solids. At 6m I only did dinner and did not change anything with BF.
I was also told that I should work up to three meals per day between 9-12m.
Ditto, especially the bolded. We did 1 meal at 6 months, 2 at 7 or 8, and 3 around 9 months. BM is the most important thing right now, not solids so always offer it first. 3/4 cup rice cereal sounds like a ton, especially because it can cause major constipation.
I just want to give a different perspective :
