Secondary IF

TGIF - what a week!

Monitoring appointment on Monday confirmed NO follicles after 12 days of stims. Second IVF cycle was officially cancelled.  Talked to RE on Tuesday (after playing phone tag all day Monday).  He said he was disappointed but not surprised by my lack of response, due to my elevated FSH (18).  He basically said that we could give it another shot, with a slightly different protocol but that he's not optimistic and wouldn't recommend it.  I hung up the phone thinking - WTF???

I've spent most of the week reading about success despite high FSH and researching to find a new RE.  I've learned that big clinics are limited to treating patients with certain protocols and came to the conclusion that we should seek a second opinion from someone that isn't affiliated with the two main hospitals in Cleveland.

My best friend is a pharmaceutical drug rep and used to work for the company that sells Crinone (progesterone gel).  At that time, she dealt with many fertility clinics and REs.  She recommended one that she thinks very highly of and we have an appt on July 6th.  He owns his own practice (opened in '92) and from what she said, he takes a very personal approach to each patient in order to achieve pregnancy.

While I obviously know there is no guarantee this journey will end with another LO, I'm optimistic that a new RE may have a new approach and be willing to think outside the box.

This is my last day of work until the 8th so I'm going to do my best to put IF out of my head and enjoy the next 9 days at home with DH and DD.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July!!

DD conceived naturally in 2009.  TTC #2 since August 2010.  Praying for guidance as we decide what's next.

Hope whispers, "Try it one more time."

  • That sounds so frustrating!  I hope the new RE is much more positive and willing to think outside the box to get the job done!  We are also frustrated with the two REs in our practice, but it's an HMO so we don't have any choice unless we go totally out of pocket which we aren't able to do.

  • Sorry your cycle was canceled.  I hope the knew RE is able to help you or at least make you feel better about what you are having to go through.  I am a firm believer that you need to be able to trust and feel cared about by your RE.

Hope the appointment goes well.  Have a great 4th!
