I'm willing to bet though a LOT of people are going to say natural. It would be interesting to do a poll after everyone's given birth and see the differences then lol

Definitely epidural! And if you say you don't want one, you will Likely change your mind during labor LOL. I've seen it happen too many times. Although, I've had some patients who were so Adament about doing it natural, and they did an amazing job. The important thing is to stay calm.

This is #4 for me and no Epi's will be doing pain meds tho. Heard 2 many horror stories w/ the epi. My friend just had one a few weeks ago and said it was heaven (even sent me a smiling pic at a 10) But Im scared to have one.

I am planning natural. I will be in a birth center where they don't offer epis so the temptation won't be there. I am hopeful that birthing is hereditary as my mom had quick labors.

While this is true, I found it really helpful to know early on with my first that I wanted to go natural. It gave me enough time to research types of natural pain management, sign up for classes, etc.

And if you can't tell from that...natural. Hoping for a water birth this time

I've had two and all natural and I hope everything is good with this one and I'm shooting for natural : but either way for ladies that have had epi does it still hurt when your giving birth ????

Very, very true.

I had an epi with my first and would plan to do so again. That being said, my first labor was only 6 1/2 hours and subsequent deliveries tend to go considerably faster. I'm worried about an "unplanned" natural birth.

Are you doing a water birth at the center

No. The birth center is within a hospital and they won't allow a water birth. I will have a tub and shower that I can use during labor though.

I didn't have any pain after the epi. Until it wore off.

Epi! I had one with my first, but I've decided to take some natural birth classes just in case I can't get one in time or it doesn't take...I was lucky the first time, but you never know.

IF I go into labor naturally and don't end up with a c-section, I am going to try natural. I tried with my daughter but the hospital I was at didn't allow me to walk around since I had been induced. I was bed-ridden....it was terrible. I just wanted to walk and stretch...so I gave in after 7 hours. I think if I can move around and get in the tub, I can go without an epi, oh my that would be wonderful. Going from c-section to completely natural. BUUUT, I am also open minded...those contractions suck and if I give in....I won't be broken hearted, I will just ask them to turn it down for pushing, so I know where to push.

First daughter no pain. 2nd a little even with epi.

Epidural.

It's kind of funny, DH and I surprisingly enough got into a debate about it. Someone he knows has a wife who had a horrible reaction to the epidural and now has seizures or something so he was completely against me having one. I kept telling him that I will go as long as I can without one, but I was not allowing myself to get past the point of no return without some sort of relief.

Fast forward a week, I got a horrible splinter underneath my fingernail. He was working on digging it out while I was sobbing hysterically (I have zero pain tolerance, as much as I'm ashamed to admit it). He was upset that I was in so much pain and I finally just yelled, "AND YOU THINK I CAN GO THROUGH CHILDBIRTH NATURALLY?? CASE CLOSED!"

And not another word has been spoken about natural child birth.

I will shoot for natural. Had a bad epi experience with my first and went natural with my 2nd. Recovery was much easier. Can't say I am excited about the pain though.

To agree with both of you.. there are a lot of variables that will determine how things will really go down the day of, but I think what OP was actually asking was what preferences has anyone chosen. (OP can correct me if I am off base here)

No one can predict the future, but i see nothing wrong with making yourself educated & becoming comfortable with a preference.

My plan this time will be same as last time. I will try to go natural, but am open to the epi should I determine I want it. I did get one last time & am glad I did. I had a wonderful birth experience.

Excluding people who had serious complications, the people I know that had the worst experiences were the ones who committed to a birth plan that they weren't able to follow, just my personal observation.

For my personal situation, I have medical issues that put my 'birth method' decisions primarily in the hands of my doctor's, who I trust. I know what is mostly likely going to happen, but I also know it is too early to plan for anything.

I want to go natural for as long as possible but I am totally open to pain management...which I am pretty sure I will want bc I am a big sissy about certain things although I haven't committed to an epi as I am deathly terrified of needles Haha

Yes Yes. While I didn't have a die hard birth plan going into my delivery with #1, the biggest lesson I learned was the importance of being flexible and going with the flow.
