I posted on FB about some $50 flip flops and after politely declining Poppy's sweet offer to buy them for me, I thought about this:
How much are you willing to spend (like, your absolute maximum, you WILL not go over, regardless of how much you "need" the item) on:
Tops:
Dresses:
Jeans:
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges):
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops):
ETA: This is for one item. One top, one dress, one pair of jeans, etc.
Re: Your limit.
Tops: $20
Dresses: $30, and I really have to love it.
Jeans: $30
"Real shoes:" $40
Summer shoes: $15 for sandals, under $5 for flip flops (Old Navy, FTW!)
I'm cheap.
SCANDAL!
Dresses: 60 bucks
Jeans: 50 bucks
"Real" shoes boots, athletic shoes, wedges: 100 unless they are boots then I'm willing to spend more
Summer shoes sandals, flip flops: 40, I refuse to wear foam and plastic flip flops as regular shoes. I'm weird like that but I like actual sandals with arch support and straps around the back of my foot.
I rarely go shopping so I'm willing to spend more on something that will last.
Tops: I don't always spend a lot on tops, I enjoy consignment store shopping, but I did spend $80 on a great sweater last year..
Dresses: Probably around $80 or so..
Jeans: $130
Real shoes: $130. That is what I spent on a pair of boots last year..
Summer sandals: 30-40 dollars.
Tops:$40
Dresses: $200( I love BWHM for dresses and try to find one on clearence but cant always find one)
Jeans:$60
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges):$80
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops):$45

IT'S A GIRL
Tops: $30
Dresses: $40 for casual dresses, $100 for a work dress or something formal
Jeans: $50-75
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges): $60
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops): $20, but most of the summer I am in $2 old navy flip flops
Looking at these numbers they seem high overall, I'm a good clearance shopper so my average price per item is really lower than my limit.

I normally buy things on sale so I rarely hit the maximum. I normally like to spend more like $15 on a top, but will splurge on nicer sweaters, etc. The most recent dress I bought was like $25 but I know I spent more on the dress I wore to my rehearsal dinner, for example. Jeans, like I said, I normally buy them for $20/ each. I should probably spend more because I wear them so often, but I don't! $100 is about how much I spent on my last pair of athletic shoes and that was a MAJOR splurge for me. I bought some really cushy Reef flip flops last year when I had giant tree trunk cankles and I do not regret having spent around $30 on them. They were the only shoes I could wear for probably 10 weeks so I bought two pairs and rotated them. They are amazing!
We are frugal twins! lol! I ditto all of this! Except for the jeans cause I don't wear pants. But a jean skirt, I usually pay about $15-$20.
I remember premarried days, I spent like $70 on a pair of shoes. Le sigh...

Proud Mama to cleft cutie
Dresses: $150
Jeans: $150
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges): $100 for everything but boots. i have spent $300 on lucchese's
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops): $50
In the glorious days of when I was living with my parents and they paid for stuff, I had no limit. I wanted Express, etc and I didn't care what the price tags said.
Now that I pay, I don't even walk in an expensive store. My limit is like $25. and it has to be machine washable and dried. I don't have the time or space to be hand washing and drying my clothes.
Dresses: 30
Jeans: 30
"Real" shoes boots, athletic shoes, wedges: 60
Summer shoes sandals, flip flops: 40
Dresses: I rarely wear dresses so I try to buy a decent one when I do so maybe 100
Jeans: 40
"Real" shoes boots, athletic shoes, wedges: 65
Summer shoes sandals, flip flops: 30
I want to preface this by saying first that I have a weird shape, so if I find something that fits, I usually find a way to buy it. And second, I don't buy a ton of clothes, but I buy timeless pieces that are built to last.
Tops: For cheapy, v-neck shirts, I will spend $20. For nicer blouses, I will spend up to $80. I usually buy a few "statement" tunics or blouses every couple of years and will spend on those.
Dresses: If I happen upon one at Target that looks nice, the limit is $20. For other casual, day dresses, I will spend up to $50. For a special occasion dress, my limit is $300. I have a few Lilly dresses that I paid over $200 for, but I will wear them for years and years.
Jeans: $50. I only buy a pair every 2 years and I buy from the Levi's outlet. When looking for temporary, post-pregnancy jeans, my limit was $25 so I could buy two.
"Real" shoes: $50. I also don't buy many shoes. This doesn't count specialty shoes, like for running or hiking. Then I will pay whatever I need to pay for the pair I was properly fitted for.
Summer shoes: I buy a pair of J.Crew flip flops every 2-3 years. I don't remember how much they cost. I also buy a pair of Sperry Topsiders every few years and typically pay about $80 for those.
So, I guess I spend a lot per piece, but I get a lot of wear out of those pieces. If I'm buying something that will wear out or only be "trendy" for a season, then I go cheap.
Tops: $50 if I love it.
Dresses: $75
Jeans: $100
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges): $50
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops):$20
Tops: 40-50
Dresses: I usually buy on sale. The last church dress I bought, I got for $10.00, and it came with a sweater. It was regularly $60, the sweater was $50 and I got both for $10.
Jeans: Usually $50-$100.
Real Shoes: I usually shop the sales racks. I got a nice pair of shoes reg: $90.00, I spent $10.00. I will spend upwards of $80 on running shoes. I don't like to cheap out on them.
Sandals: Last pair I got were $30.00. I don't wear flip flops. They hurt my feet badly.
How much are you willing to spend (like, your absolute maximum, you WILL not go over, regardless of how much you "need" the item) on:
Tops: $50-80 depending on the top
Dresses: $300 but only if it's from certain designer that I love.
Jeans: $150
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges): My athletic shoes I will spend up to 120, I have had problems with tendonitis and when I work out so much I have to be careful. Other shoes up to $100ish, again I have to take care of my feet.
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops): $100
Tops: $80
Dresses: $150
Jeans: $35? The ones I like just aren't that expensive.
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges): $300 (if they were nice boots, for athletic shoes I wouldn't spend more than $80-$90)
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops): $300 (again, nice sandals... NOT for flip flops!)
This of course is my limit. I certainly don't spend that much all the time!
DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.
Tops: $40
Dresses: $75
Jeans: $100
"Real" shoes (boots, athletic shoes, wedges): $75
Summer shoes (sandals, flip flops): $40 for a nice sandal or $25 for flip flops
Baby #2!
Um, is it weird I don't really have limits?
That being said, I'm not a crazy shopper! I like high quality items, but I search hard and long for a great sale price.
It's rare that I splurge and buy something really expensive and nice at a full price.
